Chapter 3Bassel watched as Dag ate the cubed beef and barley soup. “Good?” Dag shrugged but put another spoonful into his mouth. “I like the tomato better.” “That might be, but you had some for lunch, and you need proteins. You’re a growing boy.” Dag gave him a look saying he was away with the fairies—he wished he was. If there were fairies, he might have fit right in. “So how was school?” The same grief-doused ache spread in his chest as when he’d asked the day before, and Bassel took a deep breath.
