1 year ago “Presenting king Alfred Bram Vallin” someone outside the room announces as the doors open, I follow closely behind him as he makes his way down the steps, Remembering what he said, I scan the area for any threats, but everyone seems to be cheering and clapping. I look around the room, taking in the different sights once he sits at the head of one of the tables, It seems like we’re in a dining room, one with many different tables and at least 150 people. I don’t understand how so many people can fit into a room, Are we actually in a castle? Well he is a king so probably. It’s just so different from my small, cold and dark cell, there’s actually heating in here! Excitement starts to bubble inside of me but I quickly tamper it down and keep myself calm and collected, Looking straight ahead or scanning the large crowd. “Prestenting king father Nelson Constantine Marrick and queen mother Rayne Emeraldine Marrick” Queen mother and king father is the title to the previous king and queen. Meaning they stepped down and their child took over as king or queen, I read that in one of the books I was forced to study. I looked over to them and was stunned by how gorgeous these people were, The queen had Jet Black hair that was slicked back and bright, lively emerald eyes that stood out against her olive skin and had dimples when she smiled. The king was a little more intimidating with his medium brown hair and Amber eyes that made his skin look more tanned than his queen’s and a sharp, defined jawline. Maybe he’s just more intimidating to me because of my experience with my king. They take a seat at the opposite end of my king and nod to him politely. “Presenting King Zaiden Joseph Marrick” I felt as if my heart stopped as soon as those doors opened again, A young man walked out, I’d guess he’s in his early 20′s, He was a mix of his parents, Had his dads eyes but his were more golden and his dad’s jawline, he has his moms dimples, and a mix of their hair, it was mostly brown with black throughout it. He was also tanned like his dad and was obviously very muscular, you could tell by the way his suit hugged him but he wasn’t bulky, he has the right amount of muscles in all the right places. He was perfect, just absolutely perfect. That’s the only way I could describe him. I quickly snapped out of it and reverted my eyes to the crowd. It really doesn’t matter what I think, I’m nothing, an abomination like the King calls me. As I look around I notice other female guards dressed the same as me, causing me to frown. Men get to wear protective gear but us girls have to show off our ‘assets’ and walk around in revealing clothes that don’t protect us what-so-ever? ┏━━━━༻❁༺━━━━┓ Zaidens pov of 1 year ago I was listening to my introduction as the doors opened and the most wonderful smell hit me, cinnamon cookies with a hint of vanilla. I immediately knew my mate was in this room. I’ve been looking for her for 7 years, I’ve even been to this kingdom many times but never found her. How is she here now? A new member perhaps? I sat beside my parents after greeting the king. That’s when I noticed her, She was absolutely beautiful. Her hair was light blonde, almost platinum but not quite, she has fair skin and brown doe eyes with a light blush across her cheeks and wearing a very revealing jumpsuit, causing my inner wolf to growl. “Who Is your new guard?” I ask the king through gritted teeth, tilting my head towards my mate. I know she’s new because I’ve never seen her before and I have visited a lot over the past couple of years. “Kaianne” Was all he said, I noticed how her eyes snapped to his with fear when he said her name but she quickly recovered. I on the other hand had to restrain myself from grabbing her and pulling her towards me and growling at king Alfred. “How new is she?” I asked, as my curiosity burned through me. “Today is her first official day, I’ve been training ever since she came to me.” He responded, not quite meeting my eyes. “Where are you from, Kaianne?” I ask her, King Alfred glared at her before looking away, causing my anger to flare. “I was a-a rogue?” her voice stopped my heart, it was so angelic even though it was barely a whisper and what she said was more of a question. “Well welcome to the winning side” I offered her a smile that showed off my dimples causing her to blush. “Thank you, your majesty.” she did a quick bow of her head out of respect before scanning the crowd again, I silently watched her as her eyes kept darting back to king Alfred and everytime she looked at him her heartbeat quickened. I noticed that she doesn’t smell like a rogue at all, they have a distinct scent and rogues usually stink for a month after seeking asylum or something, it’s how you know they were a rogue in the first place. Something about her was off but I couldn’t figure out what. “You are very polite for a rogue.” My mother smiled warmly at her. “Oh uh-” she was about to answer before the king cut in. “Well that’s enough about her.” He smiled at us. “Actually,” I cut in. “She’s my mate” I looked over at her, smiling. “W-what?” The king stuttered. “That’s impossible, Kaianne. Tell him” She looked nervously between me and King alfred. “Well, Um.” she pauses while looking at the king again. “I believe you are mistaken and I have duties here” her voice comes out soft as he looks down the floor again. King Alfred glares at her. “You don’t feel it?” I ask “No” She refuses to meet my eyes. A sharp pang goes through my heart at her words. ‘She doesn’t recognize our bond.’ my wolf, Jax whimpers as he paces back and forth in my head “Can she sit with us a bit?” I ask, trying to get her closer to me so hopefully she’d feel the magnetic pull I’m feeling. “No she absolutely cannot” Queen Bethany answers as she joins us. “She’s just a guard” her words cause me to glare at her but I clench my teeth and keep my mouth shut. “Bethany” Alfred growls at her. “No, I won’t sit here if she does too, It’s bad enough she’s right beside you.” She whisper-growls at him, but I overhear them. Kaianne did too because she looked down to the floor. I silently watch her as Alfred and Bethany have their loud whisper argument that we can hear. No matter how much I try she refuses to meet my eyes. “Can I speak to her privately?” I blurt out. Everyone at the table looks at me. “Sure, whatever, Kaianne, Behave.” Alfred says, causing a stunned look to cross Kaianne’s features. I offer her my arm but she backs away. “S-sorry, I prefer not to be touched” She speaks softly. I nod before leading her outside of the dining room and down a hall that leads to the outside, I quickly smiled at her before opening the door and holding it for her. When my eyes meet her again, she’s frozen in place and her eyes hold a sad look in them as she hesitates at the door. ┏━━━━༻❁༺━━━━┓ Kaianne’s pov, 1 year ago. King Zaiden, who thinks he is my ‘mate’ just gave me the greatest gift I could have ever asked for. Seeing outside. I froze in place when he opened the door and the endless blue, almost black sky with lights peppered throughout it scared me. What if my king finds out and I get punished? Am I even allowed out there? I took a careful step forward and watched king Zaidens reaction before I took more without him reacting in a threatening manner so I decided to take more until I was standing on the grass with close behind me, causing my skin to heat up. My eyes travelled to my feet wondering what it would feel like if they were bare before looking over at him. “Can I take my shoes and socks off?” I ask carefully. “Of course” He chuckles. A wide smile breaks across my face as I lean over to take my footwear off to feel the grass between my toes. As soon as my feet touch the ground I let out a long sigh and close my eyes, feeling the cool breeze and hearing the birds sing. “Beautiful isn’t it?” he asks. “It’s perfect.” I reply. He runs a hand through his brown hair, slightly un-styling it. “How long has it been since you’ve been outside?” “I’ve never been outside before.” I reply, quickly realizing my mistake and throwing my hand over my mouth. “I mean It feels that way. It’s been a week I think, I’ve been busy studying and training that it feels so long.” “You know how some werewolves have powers right?” He asks, studying my face. “Yes” I replied, tilting my head. “Well werewolf royals, besides primal magic, have our own special ability and mine is that I’m able to tell when someone is lying. Do I need to go on?” His face remains stoic while he speaks, causing my eyes go wide at the realization. “I’m so sorry your majesty, I didn’t mean to, I just, I can’t tell you, I can’t, I have secrets and I can’t tell them because they aren’t mine” panic spreads through me, my breaths get shorter and my vision blurred. I don’t want to get punished, I did as my king told me and now another king is going to punish me, I thought as I struggled to get my breathing under control. “Hey, hey, Calm down It’s okay, I just wanna know why you’re lying.” He spoke gently, trying to reassure me. “I can’t tell you. Please don’t make me” “Kaianne!” I heard my King yell as he came outside, causing my panic to worsen as black dots clouded my vision “How dare you bring her out here! Do you know what you have done?!” He yells at Zaiden. “Kaianne, come here please” He glared at me when I didn’t move. “Kaianne that’s an order!” He yells “Stop yelling at her!” Zaiden growled at him. “I don’t Like the tone you are using with my mate.” “What’s going on?” I hear more voices but they all become blurred together. Out of the corner of my eye I see my king speeding towards me but in slow motion, with rage filled eyes and that’s when I made my decision. I will be free.. An eerie calm came over me as I looked over to Zaiden and gave him a small smile. Before the king could reach me I took off running towards the tree line, ignoring the shouts that followed me, without looking back I bound off into the forest and far away from my hell.
