Author's pov :
The room remained quiet until the principal cleared his throat.
"I know you all knows the reason why we are here" he stated
He explained everything to Mrs Kings and Mrs Daniels. They both agreed on the DNA test, although it took Mrs Daniels sometime to accept.
They bidded each other goodbye before leaving.
During the lunch break, Alicia and Delaney were called to the principal office.
They were taken to the clinic, where their blood was taken for the test.
They were finally dismissed.
Maria's pov :
I left the principal's office and went back home. All through the drive home, my mind was restless. I knew it was time for Delaney to know the truth.
There is no way I can deny the fact that they look alike. She was just the photocopy of her mother. I know Delaney will have lots of questions to ask when she comes home.
Sooner or later, she will find out and she might hate me for that. I just hope she will understand why I did not tell her all this while.
"Ma'am we are home" the driver said and I sigh
I got down from the car and went straight to my room. I took a quick shower and changed into shorts and a top. I went down the stairs and entered the kitchen.
It was 15 minutes past 2pm
"Good day ma'am" Bethel the maid greeted
"You should go to your room, I will do the cooking" I said
She bowed before leaving. I bought out everything I needed and quickly set to work.
I decided to make spinach Lasagna Panini for lunch. It is Delaney's favorite.
I put the pot on it. I added the necessary things and within 30minutes, food was ready.
"Mummy" Adrian and Adrianna called
I turned. They were back from school. I off the gas
"Hello darlings" I said
I bent to their level and hugged them one after the other
"How was school today??" I asked
"Mom, Adrian left me alone in class today" Adrianna whined
"Mom, I didn't, I only went for a walk" Adrian defended
"You did" Adrianna yelled
"But you also left me to play with your friend" Adrain defended
"That's because you left first"
"You should have waited for me"
"You know what? You should both go upstairs and take your bath, then come downstairs for lunch" I said irritated by their constant nagging
They both glared at each other before walking away angrily. I watched them leave and sigh.
They will definitely report each other to Delaney. She sure knows how to deal with them.
Talking of Delaney, she should be back in less than an hour. I really do not know how to face her, now that I know she has met her mother.
I left the kitchen to the dining table with some of the food I prepared. I dropped the plates and went to get some cold water and drinks. I came back and dropped them on the table.
I sat down waiting patiently for the twin. They came downstairs chatting. Who will believe these two just finished yelling at each other some minutes ago.
I smiled. What a happy family I have. I gestured to them to sit and they did. I served them theirs and watched them eat quietly.
While watching, my mind drifted back to Delaney. I hope she doesn't hate me for hiding this secret.
"Thank you mum" the twins greeted when they were done eating
"You should thank God" I replied
I stood up and let the maid clear the dinning
"Mum, can we watch Mickey?" Adrianna pouted
"No mum let's watch football" Adrian said and Adrainna said no
They kept arguing on what to watch until I got tired.
"It's either you select one or you go to your room" I said sternly and they were calm
"I will go play video game" Adrian answered gloomily
"I will go with Adrian" Adrainna answered
I sigh and watch them leave. These kids are something else. This minute they are yelling at each other and the next minute, they are inseparable.
I tuned the Tv to a soap opera channel. Although my gaze was glued to the Tv, my mind was far away.
I jolted back to reality when I heard a sound. I turned to see Delaney walking up the stairs.
"Delaney" I called
She turned to look at me but she didn't say a word
"you're back?" I asked
She kept staring at me. I stood up and went closer to her. She was in tears
"Are you ok princess?" I asked concerned
I tried to touch her but she stopped me.
"Don't touch me" she yelled and ran up the stairs
"Delaney!, Delaney!!, Delaney!!" I called almost in tears but she was long gone
Delaney's pov :
"Don't touch me" I yelled and ran upstairs
I got to my room and closed the door to prevent anyone from coming in. I sat on the bed and wept.
I can't believe she lied to me all this year. I can't believe she hid the truth for 17 good years. How could she do that to me
I have loved her as my mother. I couldn't help but cry, I still can't believe she did that.
I heard a knock on the door and I knew immediately that she was the one. She made an attempt to open the door but realized it was locked.
"Delaney open the door" she said
"Princess please, just open the door please"
I picked one of my pillows to cover my ears, preventing me from hearing what she has to say.
I remained that way for sometime and finally dropped the pillow. I realized she left already.
I stood up and went to take my bath and finally changed into something simple. I was damn hungry. I opened my door and went downstairs to the kitchen.
Mum was nowhere to be found and the twins also. I was supposed to check them and help them with their assignments which was our daily routine but right now, I am not in a good mood.
I entered the kitchen and saw the maid (Bethel). I guess she is preparing dinner.
'Good day ma'am" she greeted
"Hey" I replied
I went to the fridge, opened it and took a bottle of coke. I sat on one of the kitchen stools and poured the coke into a glass cup. I sipped from it before facing Bethel.
Bethel, can I get something to eat?" I asked
"Yes" she replied
She served me a plate of Spinach lasagna Panini.
"Wow, my favorite" I beamed swallowing my saliva
I dug in immediately considering the fact that I was so hungry and the fact that it's my favorite. I was half way into the meal when mum entered the kitchen.
She turned to my direction and was shocked to see me seated and eating. Her face looked puffy, she tried hiding it but I ignored. I lost my appetite.
I pushed the food away and made to stand up but she held my hand.
"Delaney, we need to talk" she said
"Please"
I sigh and followed her to her room. We entered and sat on the bed.
"Delaney, I know you hate me right now but I'm so sorry. I never meant to hide the truth from you. I was afraid you would leave when you find out. I'm so sorry" she said in tears
I tried to fight back the tears, threatening to fall
"Delaney, please forgive me. I just don't want to lose you. I knew a day like this would come but I never knew you would meet her this way. I knew she would come looking for you but i never knew she would come to your school. I'm so sorry princess. Mummy is so sorry" she wept
I was stunned at her statement. What's she talking about?
"Mum, what are you talking about?, who are you talking about??"
She looked at me surprised
"I'm talking about your mother,The woman that came to your school to ask for a DNA test" she dropped the bomb
"You.....yo..... You..... are not my....my...... Mother??" I asked shivering
She looked at me holding my hand
"I......i...... I'm not your mother Delaney. I thought you found out?" She stuttered slightly
I drag my hand from hers and stood up
"You're joking right" I asked amist tears
"Delaney I'm not joking, that's the truth" she cried
She made to touch me but I shifted backward
"I'm angry you lied to me about my father and now you're telling me this!!!!" I yelled
"I hate you, I so much hate you!!!!!" I yelled
I looked at her for the last time before running out of the room and out of the house.
My perfect life is such a mess now!!!
