Alicia's pov :
What? the principal?
I'm doom today
"Follow me" he said coldly
I stood up sluggishly and followed him to his office.
He sat on his chair and asked me to sit immediately we entered his office. I sat down quietly without raising my head up.
I waited patiently for my punishment
"Take this, give it to your mother" he said and gave me a letter
"You can leave" he said coldly
I heaved a sigh of relaxation. I'm so happy I didn't get punished. I left his office and went back to the class.
When I got to the class the teacher was already in. I took an excuse and was about entering when she spoke,
"Where are you coming from?" She asked
"From the principal's office" I answered, nervous
I have always been nervous over everything
"Go to your sit and don't you dare come late to my class again" she said angrily
"Yes ma'am" I answered and rush to my sit
Lecture was boring as usual. I tried my best to listen but it seems my mind won't.
I couldn't stop thinking about what the woman said
"Am I Korean like she said or she's just hallucinating? I thought
I have always been curious about my identity. The fact that everyone has always mistaken me for Asian kept me curious.
"Can she be telling the truth? She seems to know me"
She can't be my mother, that I know but what if she knows my mum.
Maybe I am over-thinking. I should just wait and see what happens after the DNA test.
I couldn't concentrate at school. And Maya seems worried also. She kept asking what the problem was but I couldn't tell her the truth.
Soon it was time to go home, I picked my bag and walked out of the class with Maya. We got to our lockers and we dropped our books.
"Licia is everything alright?" She asked concerned
"Yes Maya. I'm fine" I answered
"You know I love you? You can tell me anything" she said
"Come on Maya, I'm fine. You're my best friend and you know I won't hide anything from you" I answered
"Of course I know but it seems you are" she said sadly
"Hey stop that. That face doesn't suit you" I replied hitting her shoulder playfully
"I love you" she said
"I love you too" I replied
We were about to leave when the D6 blocked our way. Delaney looked at me before whispering to one of the girls. She chuckled, opened her bag and brought out a bottle from her bag.
I shivered when I saw the content. She walked majestically to me and opened the bottle.
"Hey don't you dare!" Maya yelled and blocked her from coming any closer
"Wow, wow, that's a nice try Maya" Delaney said sarcastically
All I did was shiver. Maybe I'm too weak.
"Maya get lost" the girl said
Maya kept standing. The girl shoved Maya away and finally poured the content on my body.
I gasped. It smells like rotten eggs. I wondered what they mixed together. I couldn't cry.
One of the D6 pushed me to the floor. I whined as I felt pain on my butt. They laughed at me and I could see how angry Maya was.
I couldn't stop the tears from falling this time. I cried out my pain and distress. They've succeeded in hurting my feelings.
I watched them walk away. I cried. Maya walked to me and she squatted beside me.
"It's ok, Licia. You know I hate to see you cry" she said
"I'm weak, I'm too weak Maya" I cried
"You are not Licia. You're the strongest girl I have ever known" she replied
"I'm not Maya. I'm the weakest girl you could ever know" I replied in tears
"You're not weak Licia, you're not" she whispered
"I am, I really am" I wept
"That's enough Licia, let's go home" she said standing up
She helped me stand up and we walked out of the school. We took a taxi home. Throughout the drive home, I couldn't stop crying.
I hated myself for being weak but there's nothing I could do.
"Maybe I was born weak" I thought
The taxi finally stopped at the front of my apartment. We stepped down and walked towards my apartment.
"Thanks Maya, for always been there for me" I said
"You are my best friend. I will always stand by you" she replied
"Bye Maya" i said
"I'm coming with you" she replied
"No Maya. You have a lot to do, and by the way you need to go to your mum's shop" I said
"I totally forgot, will you be ok all by yourself?" She asked concerned
"Yes I will"
"Promise me you won't cry" she said
"I won't"
"Promise?" She asked
"Promise" I said smiling
She held my hand
"Sorry I can't hug you" she said
"Come on you should get going" I said
"Bye best"
"Bye"
I got to the door and tried using my key to open the door but found out it was already unlocked. I pushed the door and entered. Mum was seated on one of the couches reading a newspaper.
"Why is she home early?" I wondered
"Mum!!" I called happily
I ran to hug her but she prevented me from touching her
"Mum? Is everything all right? I asked scared
"Of course, everything is fine. You smell like rotten egg" she said
I totally forgot about my clothes. She stood up from the couch and stood close to me.
"Were you bullied?" She asked
"No.... No... No mum. I actually fell when I was running with Maya" I lied
"Licia, I don't want you to keep anything away from me" she said
"Mum I'm fine" I smiled nervous
"Are you sure princess?" She asked concern
"Yes mum"
"You should go take your bath" she whispered
I walked to my door but turned abruptly. I walked back to where she was seated
"Is there anything wrong princess?" She asked
"No mum, the principal sent me to give you a letter" I said
"Did you do something wrong?" She asked worried
"No mum"
I could feel how worried she was. Even her voice said it all.
I opened my bag and brought out the letter the principal gave me
"Here is it mum"
I handed her the letter
"Licia" she beginning
"Tell me the truth, did you get into trouble?" She asked
"No mum, I didn't do anything wrong"
"Licia?!!!"
"Mum I did nothing wro......"
"Licia, go to your room" she said coldly
"Mum! I swear I did nothing wrong"
"Just go to your room Licia" she said
"Mum I...."
"Licia i said go to your room"
Tears dropped from my eyes. I walked away angrily. I entered my room, slamming the door
I sat on my bed and wept.
She wouldn't let me talk. She won't listen. I did nothing wrong. Although I understand her fears, she should have trusted me.
This is my fourth school this year. I'm not troublesome but I always get into trouble. When I get into trouble created by other students, I get suspended or expelled.
And that's why people call me a psychopath. They believe I am sick or something.
I know she is afraid that I might get expelled from school but she doesn't have to be cold.
I rested my head on the bed and wept the more. Life was simple before dad's death but after he died, the world turned against me.
I felt unfortunate. Maybe I have no good in me. Maybe i'm meant to bring bad luck
"Licia?" Mum called
I raised my head to see mum standing beside me. She was smiling
I guess the news wasn't bad after all
"I'm sorry for acting coldly, I thought you've gotten into trouble. You know how hard it is to feed not to talk of registering you in a new school. I'm so sorry darling" she said
"I forgive you mother. I understand your pain. I love you mum"
"I love you too darling"
We hugged each other, not minding the horrible smell.
"You should take your bath, come out for dinner when you're done" she said standing up
She walked to the door and was about to walk out when an idea popped into my head.
I should just asked her
"Mum?" I called not certain if I should say it
"What princess"
'Am... Am... Am I Korean?" I asked
I saw her stiffen. Her eyes switched in surprise. She blinked her eyes trying to find the right word to say
"What....what....what are you saying?" she stuttered
"Mum, I just want to know if I'm Korean. I look different mum. Different from the rest" I replied nervous
"You're not Korean, Licia" she said
"But mum, why am I different?" I asked curious
"You're hallucinating, you are not Korean, you are American. I don't want you to ever speak about this ever again" she said angrily
"But mum...."
"No but, go take your bath" she said and finally left my room
I sigh
Why do I feel she's hiding something from me? She's never acted that way before.
"Or am I hallucinating like she said" I thought
I stood up from the bed and pulled off my clothes before heading to the bathroom.
Whatever it is. I will definitely find out!!!
