I went to the Larkspur Group headquarters to look for Linus. Inside, it was lively, with many people currying favor towards Isabelle.
Linus brought me to his office. When he saw me holding divorce agreement papers and other documents, he looked somewhat displeased.
"You don't need to go this far. The online rumors will pass quickly."
By now, he could openly show affection towards Isabelle in public without restraint. They held hands and truly looked like a devoted couple.
I even heard that Linus and Isabelle went to her hometown and met her family, their long struggle had finally cleared, and the skies had brightened.
I bit my lip hard.
During my grandfather's hospitalization, Linus never came once. I only felt that my grandpa didn't deserve this, he had treated Linus like a grandson for so long.
Sometimes, when we had conflicts, grandpa would first look to see whether it was my fault and speak up for him.
"Rowena, I know you're strong and rational. In relationships like this, men don't like that sometimes."
Traditional elders always thought this would bring family harmony, not realizing that a relationship cannot survive if one side alone maintains it.
This relationship had long been abandoned by Linus. What was the point of me holding on alone?
I still handed him the pen. "Do you think online users are that stupid? A real divorce might as well shut up those doubters. I don't want my grandfather to be stimulated again when he wakes up."
Isabelle also chimed in, "Rowena makes sense."
Linus's expression softened considerably. "Once this blows over, we'll remarry. I said it before, your status will never change. You will always be the lady of the Larkspur family."
I gave a faint smile and did not respond. After all, I didn't care.
I hadn't brought up divorce in the past because both families' businesses were highly interconnected, but over the years, I gradually transferred assets, and the entanglement became less and less.
And all of it was thanks to Linus.
Once, Linus, in order to help Isabelle vent her anger, destroyed one of my newly established innovation subsidiaries.
The reason was simply that I had frozen one of my own bank cards.
It caused Isabelle to fail a payment at a*****e, where she was mocked and questioned.
Linus indiscriminately leaked my company's confidential information.
He lay casually on a rocking chair. "Rowena, you were the one who used those dirty tricks to embarrass Isabelle first. Besides, everything is our shared property. These secrets are tied to my company as well. I can handle them however I want."
My company went bankrupt.
A whole year of hard work.
In the office, a group of dejected employees, all their efforts hoping for good results, ended up like this.
I was furious and slapped Linus across the face. "I didn't do it. Are you even human? What am I supposed to tell my employees? Do you know how much time and effort research and development takes?"
Linus didn't listen. All he could see was Isabelle and her reddened eyes.
He even used cash flow pressure to target my grandpa's company in order to force me to apologize to Isabelle.
I feared it would affect my grandpa, so I swallowed my anger.
Reluctantly, I went to apologize to Isabelle. Afterward, Linus learned that it was a misunderstanding. He had mistakenly used my card and given Isabelle's expenses from it.
I had only frozen my own card.
He came to apologize and even wanted to spend our anniversary with me.
"I didn't realize I used the wrong card. I'll compensate you for the company. You didn't even explain it to me properly."
I laughed bitterly. He had never listened to my explanation and had already decided I was guilty.
I tried to explain, but he simply refused to listen.
Of course, we didn't celebrate the anniversary because Isabelle had a headache.
From that moment on, all my assets were completely separated from Linus Larkspur.
