Chapter 3

After submitting the divorce registration application, Isabelle clung to Linus. "We should register our marriage. You promised me." Linus kept observing my expression. Seeing that I remained calm and indifferent, his face seemed to darken slightly. Then he took Isabelle and left. That same day, I returned home and grandpa regained consciousness. He urgently wanted to know the answer. "Did you really cheat?" I wiped his face while clarifying, "No. We have already separated. This wasn't cheating at all." Grandpa could not understand. "How is that possible? You two were such a perfect match. Not long ago, you even promised to give me a grandchild." He slammed the cup heavily onto the table. "Tell me the truth. How did two people who were fine end up like this?" My eyes grew sore. Seeing my restrained expression, grandpa seemed to realize something and kept sighing. "Forget it. I rarely see you like this. You've grown up now. It's not something an elder can control anymore." I finally felt relieved. As long as grandpa had no objections, I could rest easy. His expectations for Linus were too heavy. In his entire life, he most wanted Linus and me to be together. Linus also arrived, and at the doorway he heard this conversation and stopped in his tracks. Fearing he might affect grandpa, I quickly took him to the next room. He lowered his head. "Actually, you could just tell your grandfather the truth. You don't need to protect my reputation like this. Then he wouldn't put pressure on you. Rowena, we were the best partners, but that love is already gone. Your grandfather is right. You are too rational." I nodded at the latter part. As for the former, I smiled faintly. I would not tell the truth. It was not for him. I simply did not want grandpa to be angry or feel guilty for having once pushed us together so strongly. It was better this way, keeping grandpa emotionally stable. As for him, he was nothing. While we were talking, Isabelle's screaming and crying suddenly came from the hospital room. "Don't hit me, sir. I was just kindly visiting you." Accompanied by grandpa's violent coughing. "Who allowed you to come here..." My heart shot up to my throat, and I rushed back to the room. Grandpa had fallen to the floor, coughing violently while pointing at Isabelle. "Get out! You're lying!" Isabelle covered her face and collapsed into Linus' arms. Grandpa was already coughing up blood from anger. He pointed at Linus and Isabelle before gradually losing consciousness. Terrified, I immediately called for nurses, and grandpa was rushed into the emergency room. Outside the door, Linus and I got into an argument. "How can your grandfather hit someone? Look at what he did to Isabelle. No matter how angry he is, he shouldn't do that. Isabelle only came out of kindness..." His endless complaints irritated me. "Enough. I will investigate this. Don't expect me to let her get away with what she did." I stared at Isabelle with burning hatred, wishing I could tear her apart. Linus blocked my line of sight. "Rowena, this is your grandfather's fault..." He kept blaming the old man without caring about the truth, until the doctor opened the door. "Who is the family of the patient?" I stepped forward. The moment I heard the critical condition notice, the document slipped from my hand and fell to the ground. The last thread of my rationality completely broke. I rushed forward, trying to hit Isabelle. "What did you say to my grandfather?!" Linus firmly stopped me and shoved me hard against the wall. My back hit it and I gasped at the pain. "Rowena, don't shift the blame onto Isabelle. She only came to visit. She didn't do anything." Tears kept falling from my eyes, and Linus froze for a moment. I had truly reached the point of complete emotional collapse. Why was I so rational? Because the emotional version of me had long been destroyed by them. I glared at them with hatred. "Just wait and see."
