Jaspers p.o.v
Watching her, it almost seemed like time was moving in slow motion. Maybe what Alex was saying was accurate. I have never seen a woman this way before. It almost scared me a bit. How could a mortal hold so much power over me? What was it about her that was making me crumble? Once Lucy left the office, I couldn't remember what I needed to come to the office for. I sent a mind link to my driver to be out front. I needed to go home and consult with Alex more.
I met Alex as a newborn, so we've been friends for more than a lifetime. He never talked about how he lost his wife, but it's something he was never able to get over. He speaks of her so beautifully and full of love, which not too many vampires experience true love. We're lustful creatures with tattered souls.
"When I turned into a vampire, I had already been married to Lucille for a few years. " Alex began to explain when I arrived back home. "Once I was completely turned I had a new love for Lucille. She was, in fact, my soul mate. The night I looked at her as a vampire, it was as if time was no more. She was radiant, her beauty was unlike any other woman. Our hearts were joined as one, and everything felt at ease. I had never realized that as a mortal, but as a demon I did." He spoke twisting his well-aged wedding ring on his finger. "I have never felt that in another woman, Jasper. That is why you need to grab ahold of this one while you can. My Lucille has been gone for a very long time and it's very lonely without her. How ironic, you would be destined for a Lucille, as well."
"I understand. It's just mind-blowing how a mortal human could hold so much power over me this way."
"Creatures like us aren't designed for love. We aren't supposed to feel anything but cold. When something like this can break through our numbness, it does seem scary." Alex noted, walking over to rest a hand on the fireplace's mantle.

Alex sat there that evening reminiscing back to when Lucille saw him as a vampire for the first time. Hating himself to this day that he was the reason she died so young. He kept to himself up in the mountains to keep a quiet mind to remember his wife for who she was. Her long brown hair curled perfectly down her back. Her forest green eyes almost reflected those of a cat whenever she walked into the sunlight. Her milky skin with soft pink lips always seemed to be pursed beautifully. The way her cheeks used to flush whenever Alex would smile at her. The happiness that showed on her face the day she gave birth to their firstborn son, Charles, was something he's never forgotten.
He longed just to feel her touch again. Her warm fingertips, along his cold flesh. He only agreed to stay on this earth as a vampire to prevent his inevitable demise. Selfish in feeling that his wife wouldn't know how to live without him. Later, realizing he just wasn't the same to her anymore. The sudden loss of appetite, his body temperature, the sleepless nights. He began to frighten her when he grew hungry for blood. When he came home one night covered in blood, he had to confess what he had done.
"I'm sorry, my love. I was better off dead. Mourning death is easier when they're 6 feet under." He apologized gently, touching a very worn photograph of her on the mantle.
Lucy's p.o.v
A month has passed since I began working here for Jasper, and so far it's been great. I've met a lot of great people coming in and out of here. On top of that, my neighbors have been really sweet. A couple of doors down from me lived a grandmother who was raising her 11-year-old grandson, Benjamin. Although he prefers to be called Benji. He and I usually spend an hour together when I get home from work. He likes to come over and play cards or a board game.
I closed the manila folder I had placed paperwork in and got up to put it back in the filing cabinet. I turned around and bumped into a woman whom I'd never seen before. She had raven black hair that was elegantly pinned to the left side and resting over her right shoulder. She had on a tight red dress that hugged her curves, her heels accentuated her toned calves. Her dark brown eyes paired with her heavy eye make-up gave her a smoldering look.
"Please forgive me, I didn't hear you come in." I quickly apologized, placing my reading glasses on top of my head.
"I'm sorry if I startled you, I am a very light stepper." She forgave, her voice almost responding in a slow hum. "I have an appointment with Jasper, is he in?"
"Yes, of course, let me call in and make sure he isn't in the middle of something." I smiled, walking back over to my desk and grabbing the phone. "Jasper, there's a young woman here to see you."
"Thank you, Lucy, please send her in." He responded with a small sigh.
It was a quarter after 3 when I noticed the woman that had come over here earlier was still in Jaspers' office. Jasper and I usually leave the office together, however, it didn't seem like he was coming out anytime soon. I shut my computer down and grabbed my purse from my bottom drawer before heading to the elevator. I let my hair fall out of the clip I had it in all day when the elevator collected me.
Once home, I quickly shed my clothes to hop into the shower. I had dinner and drinks plans with one of my coworkers, Sara, who works in the lower level lab department. She's very petite and couldn't be any more than 5 feet tall. Her short pixie cut and bubbly personality reminded me of Tinker bell. We had only gone out once before, and she was so much fun I nearly claimed her as my best friend.
"Headed there now, I'll get our table." Sara texted as soon as I stepped back out of the shower.
I slid into a pair of high-waisted skinny jeans, and a cropped red sweater. After lacing up my snow boots, I ran back to the bathroom to add a little more setting spray to my curls. Satisfied with my appearance, I went out the door. I hopped in my car and went a couple of streets over to Angie's Tavern. Once I got there, I was surprised at how packed it was there tonight.
Jaspers p.o.v
"Harder, Jasper." Bridgette pleaded, gripping the edge of my desk and grinding against my hard shaft. One hand on her waist, the other gripping her throat I thrust in and out of her, showing no mercy at her pleas. I could smell her blood as I drew it with my tight grip, fingernails digging deeper into her flesh. Bridgette was someone I f****d on the regular, a fellow vampire who lived upon the mountainside. Since coming in contact with Lucy, I hadn't given Bridgette another thought until she showed up here today. Trying to push her out of my head, I kept fantasizing this was Lucy I had bent over my desk. I wonder what she would sound like moaning my name. "Oh right there, don't stop." She moaned, her walls clamping down around my throbbing c**k as she orgasmed. A few more pumps and I came to my release. I pulled out quickly, fastened my pants, and walked towards my refrigerator for some water.
"What's gotten into you?" She asked, seemingly annoyed.
"I wasn't expecting you. I've had a lot on my mind." I brushed off, walking towards my window, noticing the sun was nearly set. "Damnit, what time is it?" I growled checking my watch, noticing it was nearly 6 pm. How in the hell did I let the time slip away? Where was Lucy? Did she wait for me? Did she hear what was going on in here? I mentally panicked dashing towards my door swinging it open to see the entire hallway engulfed in darkness.
"You've not sent for me in a few weeks, I got tired of waiting." Bridgette huffed adjusting her breasts back into her dress. The demon in me instantly lusted over her perfect figure. "You must have a new pet to play with." She smirked walking passed me, she kissed my neck before exiting my sight.
"Eating from the garbage when you could be dining with the best." Alex's voice echoed my office as he sat from across my office. His disapproving tone mimics his disgusted face.
"I didn't invite her here." I excused loosening my tie angrily.
He raises a hand in my direction before continuing, "You've not even attempted to court this young woman who's supposed to be your beloved."
"I'm not about to let a human make me bend and fold into a gushing i***t. No matter how beautiful or sweet or funny she may be." I mumbled off fighting with my own emotions. "Besides, she's not going to want to be with someone like me."
"You underestimate the power of love." He sighed before standing.
"Come, old friend, I'll buy you a drink."
We strolled Letterman street, my focus was on all the minds of the seasonal tourists that flourished in this town. The bar scene was tremendously populated which was beginning to make me rethink coming down here. Before going into our usual spot, the hairs on the back of my neck rose. I could smell that familiar vanilla scent waft through me, I tried to ignore it, but I couldn't resist seeing her. I opened the door and held it open for Alex as we entered Agnes'. He smirked at me as we made our way to the bar, he could read me like a book.
"Don't." I dismissed his grinning face.
"Alright, point her out. I'd love to meet her formally." He clasped his hands together spinning around in his chair to gaze at the crowd. I rolled my eyes and overlooked the already drunken scene looking for Lucy. Once I turned to the right side of the room I saw her sitting next to an employee of mine laughing hysterically. "There." I nodded in her direction. Alex glanced over at her then back at me with the cheesiest grin. I felt myself seethe as someone came up behind her and whispered something in her ear, resulting in a flirtatious laugh before she followed him to the small group of people dancing.
"Settle my friend, she's an attractive, unclaimed woman," Alex spoke to reason. "Besides, you didn't seem to care an hour ago with that w***e bent over your desk."
"Shut up," I growled through clenched teeth. The very sight of another man being remotely close to her made my blood boil. How could she allow such a waste of space near her? The thoughts emitting from this pig's mind made me want to rip his throat out in front of everyone. I quickly downed my drink before turning back away from this awful scene. It angered me more than this human woman was making me feel this way. It was frustrating, to say the least.
"I'll take another whiskey sour." That sweet voice spoke in between Alex and me. "Jasper, I see you have finally left the office."
"Hey Lucy, yes I'm sorry about that, I lost track of time." I smiled, turning to her. "Lucy, this is my business partner, Alex." I motioned towards her right. "Alex, this is Lucy, my wonderful secretary."
"Pleasure to meet you." He smiled, reaching for her hand.
"It's great to meet you as well. Hey, would you like to join us?" She offered, pointing to the table with Sara and a couple of drunk pricks.
"I'll take a rain check, we were about to head out. We have somewhere to be in a few." Alex answered, noticing my distaste for the company she was surrounded by.
She bid farewell before going back to her table. I hated everything about this feeling, feelings in general. Every time I get a grip on my feelings, it fizzles out when she comes around. Her smell, her smile, and her voice just makes me want to burn the entire world down just so it was her and me without anyone else. Fighting the urge to just grab her by the back of her hair and kiss her until she begged for air. Another part of me hates this feeling because she doesn't feel the connection as I do. Why am I being tortured by this?
