Ava’s POV
The moment Cain walked out of the office, silence settled over the room.
Not the peaceful kind of silence.
The uncomfortable kind that only made me more aware of the conversation taking place somewhere beyond the walls.
I stared at the closed office door for several seconds before finally giving in to my curiosity.
Slowly, I walked toward it and rested my ear against the wood.
I couldn’t hear anything. Not a single word.
I frowned.
Seriously?
I pressed my ear harder against the door, hoping I would catch at least a muffled voice.
Still nothing.
I let out an annoyed sigh and stepped back.
“This is ridiculous,” I muttered under my breath. The one room I actually want to eavesdrop in has to be soundproof.
