CHAPTER 2
KITTY HENDERSON
"I'm so sorry about this, Kitty. Boys, apologize to Kitty right now!" Isabella said.
"We're sorry." They chorused in unison.
"It's alright, Mrs. Bianchi," I reassured her with a smile. "It was just a little unexpected shower. Kids will be kids."
Isabella sighed in relief. "Thank you for being so understanding, Kitty. Those two can be quite mischievous.
After Isabella's scolding, Kaden and Jaden didn't retreat to their playroom. Instead, they stood there, their little faces reflecting remorse and sadness. They looked so cute and repentant that I couldn't resist approaching them.
I walked over to the twins, crouching down to their eye level. "Hey, you two," I said gently, "I hope you know it's okay. "It's not that big of a deal, really," I said. Accidents happen, and I'm not upset with you at all."
Kaden and Jaden exchanged a glance and then looked at me, their big eyes filled with hope. "You're not mad, Miss?"
I shook my head with a reassuring smile. "No, not at all. It was just a little water, and it's all dried up now."
They grinned, relieved. "Thank you and sorry for getting you wet," One of them said, his voice filled with genuine remorse.
I ruffled his hair affectionately. "No need to apologize. It's all good. You're welcome, and you can call me Kitty," I said with a friendly grin. Their faces lit up at my introduction. "Kitty!" they exclaimed, their enthusiasm infectious.
"So what are your names?" I asked.
"I'm Jaden" The one with the blue water gun said
"And I'm Kaden, I'm Spiderman's sidekick" he said and his twin looked at him then face palmed.
"That's not what she asked you" Jaden said
"Whatever" Kaden replied.
"Well, I have a soft spot for Spiderman too He's just a regular guy who becomes a hero, and he's really fun." I said.
"Yeah" Kaden said in excitement.
"My favorite is Captain Freedom"
"Captain Freedom, huh? He's pretty awesome. What do you like about him?"
"He's super strong and he can fly, just like a real superhero should!" he said.
Just then, little Sofia entered the room, her blue eyes wide with curiosity and she walked over to me ignoring her parents standing "Hi there. What's your name?"
Sofia looked up at me and beamed. "I'm Sofia. Like Sofia the first!"
I chuckled softly. "Wow, that's such a pretty name, Sofia the first. It's lovely to meet you."
Sophia's eyes sparkled with delight as she engaged in our sweet conversation. "How old are you, Miss Kitty?"
I mirrored her innocence and playfully raised five fingers. "I'm this many," I said, creating an immediate connection with her.
Sofia giggled and clapped her hands. "You're so much fun, Miss Kitty!"
I smiled at her until i heard the clearing of a throat. I immediately stood up remembering i had audience.
I stood up from my crouching position, realizing that I had an audience with the billionaire couple. I gave a somewhat awkward smile, hoping I hadn't overstepped my bounds.Lorenzo, who had been a man of few words throughout, offered a faint nod of acknowledgment. It was difficult to read his expression, but he seemed relatively okay with the situation. Isabella was more expressive, her smile warm and appreciative. "Thank you, Kitty. We'll be in touch soon. It was a pleasure meeting you."I nodded and replied with genuine enthusiasm, "Thank you, Mrs. Bianchi. I look forward to hearing from you."
With that, I left the grand mansion and started my journey home. The water gun incident and the playful interaction with the children had left a positive impression, and I couldn't help but feel hopeful about the potential job opportunity.
As I walked, I remembered that my food supplies and groceries at home were running low and decided to stop by at the grocery store.
The grocery store I visited was nestled in my neighborhood, a quaint little shop that had become a familiar part of my life. Sam and Emily, the elderly couple who owned the store, had welcomed me like family ever since I had moved into the area.
As I entered the store, Emily greeted me with a beaming smile. "Kitty, dear, it's good to see you again. How have you been?"
I returned her smile warmly, genuinely happy to be in their presence. "I'm doing well, Emily. It's always a pleasure to visit your store."Emily and I had developed a close relationship over time. She knew about my struggles and had always been there to offer support and kind words. To me, Sam and Emily were like surrogate parents, and I could sense the same affection from them. We started our usual conversation as I gathered groceries. "How's your daughter, Emily? Any news from her?"Emily's eyes lit up with maternal pride as she began to talk about her daughter. "Oh, she's doing wonderfully, Kitty. She just had her second baby, a little boy. We couldn't be happier."I couldn't help but share in her joy. "That's fantastic, Emily. I'm so happy for you and your family."
As I started to shop, Sam, her husband, came out from the back of the store. He held his back, wincing as he straightened up. Concern filled my expression as I approached him.
"Sam, are you alright? Do you need any help?"
Sam, always the jovial one, flashed a reassuring grin despite his discomfort. "Ah, Kitty, it's just this old back acting up again. You know how it is with us old men."I couldn't help but chuckle at his humor. "Sam, you're not that old, and you're in great shape for your age."Sam continued to jest, "Well, Kitty, these old bones don't always cooperate. But don't you worry; I'll be back to my usual self in no time."Emily joined in on the light hearted banter, playfully scolding her husband. "Sam, you need to take it easy and let Kitty do the heavy lifting."
Sam and I shared a smile. "I think Emily's right, Sam. Anytime, you can call me. You should listen to your lovely wife."
Few minutes later, I was out of the shop and I began to head home.
As soon as i got home and started to cook, I got a message from an unknown number.
