Sterling and I took one look at each other. "Don't," He mouthed to me, but I was already racing towards the door. I heard him cursing like a sailor, then steps, as if he was coming after me. When I reached the door, I curled my fingers around the cold bars and peered through the window. Outside, Stupid Jerk and Stupid Twerp were dragging a little girl along. Her hair was curly and obsidian-black, reaching down to her frail shoulders. Her dark skin was the color of coffee mixed with cream, and her dark eyes were sparkling with fear. A small splattering of black freckles dotted her tiny nose. She was shrieking like a banshee, struggling and kicking like a little demon. "Let--me--GO!" She seethed.
