‘No calls for backup?’ ‘None.’ Several soldiers had moved into the clearing. Three were moving toward the abandoned chopper. Jim let them advance toward his position. He searched for targets in the night vision scope. Behind the front soldier, a radio antenna waved in the air. He selected the soldier next to the radioman. Jim sighted on who he thought was the leader and squeezed the trigger. Then, a fraction of a second later, he shot the radioman, both with a single shot. He flipped the selector for automatic as he ducked and dove to his right. The foliage, where he had just been, erupted in fragments of wood and leaves. Then, he rose and swept left to right across the closest group who, foolishly, were still upright in the meadow. He eliminated, or wounded, four. The remaining soldier
