Chapter 16HEATHER LAUGHED OUT LOUD. Ben had gone gaga over Maria’s thirty-seven-foot Fisher motor sailboat. She explained it wasn’t perhaps the fastest sailboat, just the most seaworthy, and to her, beautiful. If they wanted, it could take them anywhere in the world. The three of them spent a wonderful two hours talking while they ate lunch. Maria proceeded to tell Ben more about their old college shenanigans than Heather wanted him to know. She had had her life before Jim. Probably Ben would also have some less-than-dignified times ahead as the seasons added to his years.
They left Heather on the dock as the prop of the North Star churned the cold waters of Puget Sound. Heather was glad that she had brought Ben and that she had had some time with Maria.
