Chapter 20: The Eternal Flame One year later. The Lowlands Pass, once a narrow, deadly canyon of ice and jagged stone, had been transformed into the grandest trading crossroads on the continent. Massive archways carved from smooth obsidian spanned the width of the canyon, draped in white and gold banners displaying the unified crest of the Dragon Realm—a stylized dragon holding a burning star in its claws. Merchants from the High Elf forest, dwarven blacksmiths from the deep mines, and peaceful wolf traders filled the bustling stone plazas. Children played safely in the warm sunlight, and the air was filled with the sound of music, laughter, and the rich scent of roasting meats and sweet spices. High above the pass, perched upon a magnificent marble terrace jutting out from the cliffside, Seraphina stood watching the vibrant life below. She wore a simple, elegant gown of soft golden silk, her long hair braided with wild red mountain roses. Her massive obsidian wings were folded neatly against her back, radiating a gentle, comforting heat that kept the cool mountain breeze at bay. Beside her sat a small wooden cradle carved with runic protection seals. Inside, wrapped in soft dragon-silk blankets, lay a sleeping newborn infant—a baby girl with tufts of soft silver hair, whose tiny skin occasionally flared with faint, harmless ripples of golden light. Ignis stepped onto the terrace, his heavy footfalls softening as he approached the cradle. He looked down at his daughter, his usually stern, terrifying face softening into a look of absolute, breathtaking tenderness. He reached down with one massive, scarred finger. The baby stirred, opening her eyes—deep, brilliant pools of pure amethyst—and tiny, chubby fingers reached up to wrap tightly around her father's finger. A tiny, spherical spark of white fire ignited harmlessly an inch above her head before floating away into the sky. Ignis let out a quiet, rumbling chuckle, leaning down to kiss the baby's forehead before turning to wrap his arm around Seraphina’s waist. "She has your core," Ignis whispered, his voice full of quiet awe. "Feisty. Unyielding." "She has your eyes," Seraphina smiled, leaning her head against his broad shoulder as they stood together, watching the sun begin its slow descent behind the jagged northern peaks. The sky turned into a breathtaking canvas of deep violet, crimson, and gold—the exact colors of their realm, their fire, and their home. In the far southern distance, the old lands of the Bloodmoon Pack were now nothing more than overgrown green hills, forgotten by history, swallowed by the vibrant new life taking root across the continent. The past was dead, its ashes swept away by the mountain wind. Seraphina looked up at Ignis, her soul completely at peace. She had been cast into the furnace of rejection and cruelty, burned away to nothing, only to be recast in solid gold and star-iron. She was no longer an omega. She was no longer a victim. She was Seraphina—Empress of the Dragon Realm, mother of stars, and wife to the Sovereign of the Skies. And as she looked out over her kingdom, wrapped in the warmth of her mate's arms, she knew that their flame would burn brightly, untouched and unbroken, for all eternity.
