Chapter 10: The Sovereign’s Judgment

Chapter 10: The Sovereign’s Judgment Silence fell over the scorched plateau, heavy and absolute, broken only by the crackle of lingering golden sparks dancing across the melted stone. The fifty elite Bloodmoon warriors lay scattered across the rock, groaning in agony. Their heavy iron mail had superheated, burning through their leather tunics, and their wolf spirits were so utterly crushed by the terrifying aura radiating from Seraphina that none of them could even stand. Alpha Kaelen remained on his knees at the center of the plateau, clutching his throat. The dark gray veins of the Rejector's Curse were screaming beneath his skin, burning like molten lead. He looked up at Seraphina—at her towering, magnificent obsidian wings burning with violet fire, at her glowing amethyst eyes, at her flawless, untouchable beauty. A terrifying, suffocating realization crashed through his mind. She was never wolf-less. She had never been weak. She carried the legendary, divine blood of the extinct Dragon Realm. And he had thrown her away for a politically convenient alliance with a cruel, scheming female. "Seraphina..." Kaelen begged, his voice cracking as he reached a trembling hand toward her. "Please... the bond... it's killing me... it's killing our pack... mark me... forgive me..." Seraphina looked down at him from above, her massive dragon wings fanning the hot air slowly behind her. There was no hatred in her eyes—only a cold, vast indifference that hurt Kaelen far more than any blade could. "Forgiveness is a gift for those who make mistakes out of ignorance," Seraphina said softly, her voice carrying the terrifying weight of a god passing judgment. "You did not make a mistake, Kaelen. You looked at my pain, my poverty, my suffering... and you chose to step on me to raise yourself higher." "I was blind!" Kaelen wept, tears of pain and humiliation cutting through the soot on his face. "I will make you Luna! I will banish Victoria! I will bow to you before the entire High Council!" "You will bow because you have no choice," a deep, terrifying voice echoed from the sky above. The clouds split open. A shadow vast enough to swallow the entire canyon fell over the plateau. The wind howled as a colossal black dragon—two hundred feet long, with scales forged from indestructible obsidian and eyes of pure, burning purple fire—descended from the heavens. The force of its landing shook the entire mountain range. The sheer weight of the creature crushed a massive granite outcrop into fine powder. The massive beast lowered its regal, horned head, its glowing purple eyes locking onto Kaelen. It let out a low, guttural growl that made the teeth in Kaelen’s jaw rattle and sent three warriors into unconsciousness from pure fear. The black dragon shifted. In a swirl of dark violet smoke and floating embers, the massive form condensed into the tall, silver-haired figure of Ignis Drake. He stood beside Seraphina, dressed in his black scale armor, his hand resting casually on the pommel of his greatsword. Ignis looked down at Kaelen as if he were looking at an insect crawling in the dirt. "So this is the little dog who dared to cast out my Queen," Ignis said softly, his tone dripping with quiet, terrifying contempt. Kaelen stared up at Ignis, his breath failing him entirely. *The Dragon Sovereign.* The mythical king of the northern skies, a creature ancient enough to have watched the birth of the first wolf packs. Ignis stepped forward, standing between Kaelen and Seraphina. He reached down, grabbing Kaelen by his hair, and yanked his head back, forcing the Alpha to look up into his glowing violet eyes. "Listen closely, wolf," Ignis growled, his voice vibrating through Kaelen’s skull. "Your pack rots because you are unworthy. Your land dies because you are a coward. You came here today hoping to drag a helpless girl back to your chains." Ignis tightened his grip, his obsidian gauntlet digging into Kaelen’s scalp until blood dripped down his forehead. "She belongs to the sky now," Ignis declared, his voice booming across the mountains like thunder. "Go back to your rotting hall. Tell your elders, tell your step-sister, and tell the High Council of Alphas... the Dragon Realm has awakened. And when my Queen returns to the south... she will burn your little pack to ash." Ignis shoved Kaelen backward onto the scorched stone. Without another word, Ignis turned to Seraphina. His terrifying aura vanished instantly, replaced by a gentle, profound warmth as he extended his hand to her. Seraphina smiled, placing her hand in his. With a single, synchronized beat of their massive wings—hers burning with golden-violet fire, his with coal-black shadow—the two sovereigns launched into the sky, soaring higher and higher into the clouds until they disappeared toward the Northern Sanctum. Below on the ruined plateau, Alpha Kaelen lay on his back in the cold soot, clutching his burning chest, watching his salvation fly away into the endless light.
