CHAPTER 3

ZNOW

The rest of the week was a blur and I successfully managed to stay out of trouble, which was great. My ribs healed nicely.

It's the weekend and I usually volunteer at the pack library because why not? And then again, there are not a lot of people who come to the library, so it's a nice hiding spot for me.

Rolling out of bed, I started getting ready for the day. I tamed the bird's nest of a hair that was on my head into a high bun, slipped on leggings and an oversized shirt alongside my worn-out van and backpack.

" Good morning Alpha, Luna," I greeted cheerily.

" Oh, hi, Znow you seem to be in a good mood this morning," the Alpha replied. "Come have breakfast with us."

I happily obliged, but I could see that a lot of people were not happy to see me. They never are. Darla especially had a huge frown on her face, but I couldn't care less though, because I knew that no harm could come to me at this point because of the presence of the Alpha and that made me feel very happy.

" I have a special announcement to make: our pack will be hosting the annual Pack Leader's meeting next week, and we are to expect visitors to start arriving from today. I mean the Alphas and their entourage, " Alpha Finn said, "including Alpha Ermis, the leader of Claw marks Cove and other respected Alphas, so you are all obliged to be on your best behavior. "

Alpha Ermis??? My jaw dropped as I thought in shock. I looked around and the rest of the park were mirroring my exact reaction. He is the most feared and most ruthless alpha in our realm. His parents were killed in a rogue attack some years back and that contributed greatly to his ruthlessness, which has made him inviolable.

He doesn't usually attend meetings, he always sends a representative, so I'm really surprised that he has decided to grace our pack with his presence.

" Alpha Ermis, OMG I heard he is really hot," some girl said.

" And he doesn't have a mate. "

" I'll give anything to be mated to him."

" Rumor has it that his eyes are gray, he is very tall and ribbed."

They kept rambling on and on about his physique and how they wanted to be mated to him so badly.

The idea of having a mate has crossed my mind only a few times and every time it does, I quickly shut that thought down because who would want a pathetic wolf like me? That's if I can even call myself a wolf.

" Silence!!!" Alpha Finn's voice rang out, silencing my thoughts as well as other people's voices. "In a few days' time, the seniors will be done with their final exams. I believe you are all excited about the prom, which brings me to the next announcement: all those completing high school are to join the daily pack training. Failure to comply will attract serious punishment. You all can now carry on with the rest of your day."

What??? I can't believe he just said that, I am not really the most athletic person and now compulsory training?? I'm doomed.

" Are you girls going shopping? " Luna asked.

" Yes we are, I need to find the perfect dress, " Darla replied.

" Okay then, have fun, Znow aren't you going? "

"No Luna, I'm not going, " I replied.

" Why? It's the last event of high school. You should be very excited. "

" I know, but I don't want to go, I'll rather stay in and read. "

She took one good look at me, shook her head and walked away. Honestly, I would rather stay warm in bed because I don't have a date, and it's not like anyone is going to dance with me. Bullying me will be the highlight of the event, so I'd rather just stay in my room.

As I walked to the pack library, I thought about the idea of mates and how the other she wolves were so excited talking about it. It's not something I usually think about, but here I am today. I'm really not surprised at their excitement because who will reject them? I mean, look at Darla despite the fact that she is very mean, she is beautiful. Beauty, I don't believe, is the right terminology. Statuesque. Yes, that's it. With her long legs, toned body and impeccable black hair, I've always envied people with black hair. I hate my hair, it's just plain white and my dull blue eyes. Maybe the reason I haven't shifted is that I'm a polar bear, no polar bears are black originally, or maybe I'm a snow bunny. That's perfect because I don't have the physique of a wolf.

Will my mate love me? Will a wolf love a snow bunny? I don't think so, because it's natural for wolves to hunt snow bunnies. Even if the moon goddess manages to bestow upon me one, I bet he will reject me in a heartbeat because who will want a pathetic excuse for a wolf like me? Rejection is the worst thing that can ever happen to a wolf. The pain is so much that it can lead to death. Maybe when I finally find my mate he will reject me and then I will finally die.
