Chapter 4   Barry could feel the wind the blowing against his face. He was driving across the town’s highway, with the driver’s window open. The air felt breezy. The air felt a lot fresher, compared to what he was used to, back in the big city. From time to time, he would take a glance at either side of the road. On either side of the highway, he saw lots of green fields and lots of pine trees. For some strange reason he felt afraid of the forest. It was as if he knew something could be lurking there. Some kind of monster. You’re being silly!!!!, Barry thought. Barry kept his eyes focused on the road, until he spotted something he was looking for. A diner. He could also see the two neon-lighted plaque signs. The first sign said: SAM’S DINER The second sign said: OPEN 24 HOURS There was also a third sign. But it was not a neon-lighted plaque. It was a 1950s-style retro American diner design plaque. It had the image of a mustard hot dog in a bun. It said: TAKE AWAY OR EAT HERE His stomach was growling. He was feeling hungry. I’m starved!!!!, Barry thought. He parked his car, a Jaguar XFR, on an empty spot, within the diner’s parking lot. He shut off the car engine, taking out the car key. He got out of the driver’s seat. Barry looked up at the sky. It was a cloudy day. The sun was not really breaking through today. Barry walked through Sam’s Diner front entrance, pushing through the front doors. His eyes were trying to look for a good place to sit. He found a good spot. A table. By the window. For himself. Barry walked to the empty table he designated for himself and sat himself down, by the window. He looked around the diner. He only spotted two couples, each sat down on their own tables. The two couples glanced at him for a while, then went back to their own private conversation. The two couples didn’t look like high school kids, so he didn’t really care. After all, if he was going to join the local high school, it would be best for him to know whom his colleagues were. Barry picked up the diner menu on the table. He noticed someone was coming to approach his table. He could see it was a waitress. . He focused back on the menu he was holding. He was still checking out the menu, to see what he really wanted to get. He then finally decided on what he was going to order. His eyes then shifted to the waitress, who was now standing by his table. He looked at her. She had short auburn hair, brown eyes, had freckles, wore glasses and looked like a high school student who worked in the diner as a part- time waitress. She just stood there, staring at him. Like some kind of zombie. Like some kind of robot. Barry smiled at her. “Can I order something!!” Barry attempting to be sarcastic. Barry preferred waitresses to be smiling, even oggling, at him. The waitress kept staring at him. She stared at him intensely. As if she had never seen anyone like him before. “Can I get something to eat????” Barry was annoyed. The waitress looked at him, as if she had just woken up from some kind of trance. He looked at her name badge. It said: ABBY WALSH. “Oh yes sure!! What would you like to order??” she asked in a low tone. He pointed at the menu, saying that he wanted the large cheeseburger meal, with extra fries and a cola. She took down his order, then left. What a weirdo!!!!, he thought. Then Barry just made a realisation. . What he should have expected. From girls like Abby Walsh. She was obviously mesmerised by him, he concluded. He knew he was good looking. He knew he was very attractive. He also looked like he played for the football team. He looked like the team quarterback. . I also look like I could be a Varsity Team player!!!!, he thought. He was giving himself a pat on the back. He was giving himself compliments. A lot of girls back in his old high school loved football players. They wanted to date them.......badly. They wanted to be with them.......badly. And there was the other possibility. She was intimidated by him.
