Chapter 20 Meet the Twins

1317 Words
Neve I was hiding in the branches of a tree overlooking the edge of the frozen waterfall. The drop off the edge of this waterfall would easily be over 1000m. It was quite beautiful looking at the rushing water frozen in its path. It was both beautiful and ominous. A natural hazardous deterrent acting as a border between realms. I was waiting for Lucas and Lyall. Delilah had instructed they would meet me here at the edge of the Winter Realm as they did not want Edgar to be aware of where their homes were located as they were hidden by concealment charms. Lucas and Lyall were warriors in my father’s pack. When Edgar had succeeded in his coup, rather than serve a tyrannous traitor they had gone rogue along with my parents living under the radar trying desperately to restore order. Apparently, after smuggling me away to the Summer Realm, my parents and Lucas and Lyall worked together to spy on Edgar and communicate with those trapped within the trees. Finally, I could hear the arrival of Lucas and Lyall. It was a few more minutes before they came into view. I rub my eyes, thinking I am seeing double. Not only did Delilah fail to tell me they were identical twins, but she forgot to mention how stunning these men were. Long straight blonde hair, flowing down to their shoulders, piercing blue eyes. Rippling muscles that were evident even through their thick fur skin coats, identical clothing to mine. They looked good for werewolves in their 40s…which wasn’t so surprising as werewolves rarely looked their age- the perks of immortality. I wonder if the Moon Goddess would fate me to these two? Don’t be stupid, laughs my wolf. You would have sensed the mate bond by now… I apparate from the tree to the ground and greet them, holding out my hand. “Lucas and Lyall, I am Princess Neve, daughter of King Nathaniel and Queen Noelle.” They smirk as they brazenly check me out, saying nothing. My cheeks flush with colour. Their lack of response is flustering me. Finally one of the twins speaks, “We’re not Lucas and Lyall.” “Well, who are you?” I demand. “Delilah told me that they would be meeting me here.” The same man speaks again. “I am Lync, and this is Leo,” He gestures to the twin next to him. “We’re Lyall’s sons.” “Oh!” The twins and I then take a seat on a large boulder beneath the tree that is in full sun. Whilst the sun is weaker here in the Winter Realm, the rays are still warm. Lync and Leo begin to explain their family dynamic. They were four years old when Edgar’s coup began, making them 3 years older than me. They had lived in a large house enchanted by a concealment spell that kept them safe. Their father and mother shared the house with their Uncle Lucas and his mate, and their identical twin daughters, Lexi and Luci, who were the same age as me. Lync and Leo had been training together for many years learning everything they could from their father and uncle. “We met your parents a few times,” says the handsome twin, whom I now recognised as Leo. “Your father was an amazing fighter. They really loved to spend time with Lexi and Luci. We were jealous at the time, but now we realise it was because they were the same age as you, so they were probably thinking about you.” I give a small smile in response and pull my knees up to my chest. Lync nudges Leo and hisses, “that was too much, now you’ve upset her!” “Sorry if I have made you sad,” Leo says apologetically, looking at me with his strikingly blue eyes. I could easily get lost in those eyes. “No, that’s ok,” I reassure him. “You didn’t mean to upset me.” “I am really sorry, though,” Leo apologises again. “I was just really nervous about meeting you. You see, we don’t meet many new she-wolves living as we do, and when dad and Uncle Lucas said we were to come to meet you instead of them, I kinda got a little excited at the possibility of you being our fated mate.“ Both Lync and Leo shift awkwardly repositioning themselves on the boulder, and I blush a deep red. “s**t, I overshared again, sorry!” “No s**t sherlock,” Lync glares at his twin. Leo runs his hand awkwardly through his hair. I giggle at how embarrassed the twins are. “Sorry to disappoint you, guys!” I grin trying to lighten the mood. They both look at me in horror. “Oh no, Princess!” cries Lync. “We are not disappointed by you at all.” “Please forgive us, Princess Neve!” Exclaims Leo. “You are not a disappointment." My previous giggle turns into a full belly laugh, and the twins stare at me strangely. “Guys, I am not mad!” I gasp between giggles. “I was just making a joke. Please don’t be so formal around me. I have only known I was a Princess for two days now, I am not easily offended.” The twins relax a little bit, and we continue our conversation. "So you thought I could be your mate?" I ask amused. "Yeah," says Leo sheepishly. "We still could be," adds Lync slyly, his eyes full of mischief. "What do you mean?" I ask, confused. "Well... you could fall hopelessly in love with us, so much so that when you meet your fated mate, you reject him and we could be your second chance mate," he explains, waggling his eyebrows. "Ha! And what makes you so sure that when I meet my fated mate, that he won't be a billion times hotter than you, and I will fall madly in love with him?" I retort back. "So, you think we're hot do you?" asks Leo with a devilish grin that makes heat pool in my stomach. "I never said that!" I tried to deny it, blushing profusely, partly about letting slip that the twins were hot, but also because I was being turned on by them. "Yes, you did!" Lync chimes in. "Ahhh, I can see it now," Leo sighs, dramatically stretching out on the rock, his arms behind his head. "Us walking down the aisle together." I blush a darker shade of red as my wolf flashes pornographic images of me and the twins on our wedding night. Identical twins are usually fated to one mate as during fertilisation there is only one egg that's split in two, so identical twin wolves are genetic clones of each other- one person means one mate. I thought you didn't like the wolves! I said accusingly to my wolves. NO, I said you weren't fated to them... I never said anything about not LIKING them she countered. Great! Now even my wolf had a crush on these two Adonis'. I eventually broach the conversation about why I was sent to them in the first place. “Delilah informs me that you can help me rescue my parents and reverse the spell that has my people trapped.” Both the twins' eyes immediately darken, as their wolves come forward. “Absolutely!” states Leo. “We have been waiting 17 years for you to arrive so we can enact our plan,” says Lync. “But first, you need some training before we brief you on our plan.”
