Chapter 17 Jake's Dream

715 Words
Jake POV I awoke in a strange woods, it was definitely not the rainforest of Sangue Luna Pack as the ground was carpeted in a thick layer of snow. Snow was currently falling gently all around, it was rather serene. My wolf however was nowhere near serene, he was agitated and urged me to move towards the east. The further we walked, the more agitated he became. I shivered slightly as I realised I was shirtless and shoeless, just in the boxers I had gone to sleep in. This dream was so real… right down to my wolf’s reactions Calm down! I will not calm down, snapped my wolf. Can you not see it? Can you not HEAR them? I scanned the woods, up ahead I could see a faint purple glow through the trees and I could hear a menacing voice demanding that someone “Try harder!” Now that I had registered what was agitating him, my wolf started trying to push forward. I did not give him control, but I picked up the pace and stealthily moved closer to the purple glow. As I approach, I realise the purple glow is a large crystal in the middle of a small clearing. I stop a few feet inside the tree line. I observe a large werewolf with his back to me standing over a dark-haired she-wolf who is kneeling in the snow. I cannot see her face, but I can see silver neck shackles. Her scent reminds me of Neve slightly. I can just see part of a man standing on the other side of this glowing crystal, he has almost white hair hanging down to his shoulders and he is tall like an alpha, but there is a different aura and smell about him, it is almost sweet... not a wolf, but definitely something supernatural. A high pitched cackle comes from within the tree line on the other side of the clearing, “Look who we have here?” There are sounds of a struggle before a scrawny, unkempt werewolf comes into view dragging a younger she-wolf. Neve! My wolf howls. I quickly start assessing the situation and attempt to shift into my wolf form but for some reason, I cannot. I am desperate to get to Neve and decide to battle in my human form when I hear a strange yet commanding voice in my head. Stop! You cannot help Neve here, you need to go back and gather help. You need to alert Alpha Jonty. My eyes snap instinctively to the half-wolf half-unknown man obstructed by the crystal. He briefly makes eye contact before he mind links me again, GO! I awake in the humid cabin of the Alpha Institute freezing, with my feet covered in mud, leaf litter and snow. Duke POV I am awoken by Jake shaking me roughly. He is rambling like he has lost his mind, talking about travelling through a portal in his sleep to the woods in a foreign realm where it was snowing. He describes a purple glowing crystal in a clearing and seeing a she-wolf and a wolf-hybrid male being held captive. He proceeds to tell me how a straggly looking wolf pulled Neve into the clearing and how she bravely fought back before another larger wolf tried to attack her. He became forlorn when he said that his wolf could not switch and how the wolf-hybrid had mind linked him, urging him to go and get help before waking up. “Dude, strange dream,” I mused, trying to placate him hoping that he would go back to bed so I could continue to sleep. “It wasn’t a dream!” Jake looks at me exasperatedly. “How do you know?” “My feet,” he said, gesturing wildly at the floor. “Your feet?” “They are covered in snow and mud!” He cried. I looked down at the floor and my eyes widened as I saw the last remnants of snowflakes melting into Jake’s hot werewolf skin. “We need to go home now and check on Neve,” Jake commanded in his alpha voice. I nodded in agreement as I sprung out of bed and grabbed my clothes.
