Scarlett pov
There were fewer times that I hated myself, sometimes I wonder why I was so ambitious that I had no time for anything else. Maybe I was missing out on a lot but that wasn't the case. The world was confused and drawn to things that didn't matter. That was how I saw it. The issue of some celestial being, pairing you with someone you hate was just one of the things I hated along with the mirror of NY old self. There was pain knowing that your life was doomed regardless of how you tried to change things for yourself.
I ran away from his presence because I couldn't stand the fact that I was paired with him. Mom died when I was born. I didn't get to experience what they had even when he spent a very good amount of time talking about what she loved and hated. Things she would say and things she would frown at, there was peace knowing that they faced the reality of their love and moved on.
Ever since I ran outside of their presence, I have been trying to imagine a life with just the both us. But the question still remained, how do you imagine a life with someone you hate? Someone that you couldn't even make eye contact with low enough to keep your heads? I haven't felt this rage in a long time, I didn't know how to manage such terror. It was the breaking point of your body, when it wants to undergo change but something was just a hindrance to it. I do not know how to deal with this much emotions, the novelty if it was making me insane. I was already home but the confusion was a hindrance to my decision making.
Should I leave everything behind? Just go to a place where no one can find me? I didn't know when I was asking the question out loud. I breathed slowly, sat at the foot of my bed, and I watched myself through the mirror opposite. I couldn't recognize myself, I looked like a ghost just hours after having a nervous breakdown. I have not had this type of disorientation before, it was ruining me from inside out.
My ringtone startled me as it echoed throughout the room. It was Nicole.
"Hey girl! How are you?" Her singing voice wasted the tension that had infested me for hours.
"I'm good."
"Uh uh. That doesn't sound like you are really good. C'mon tell me what's going on?"
I fought back the tears but her calm voice didn't make that possible for me anymore. I broke down and she said. "Hey, please do not cry. Here's what we are going to do, I'm going to come over and we talk about it, okay." I nodded like she could see me. The call was disconnected. Nicole was human and she has been my friend since law school. She grew up in a foster home, so life growing up to be a fully independent woman wasn't as easy. She saw herself through school and she had been there for me like no one else does.
I was already in the living room when I heard the doorbell ring, her scent clouded my breath. I rushed to get the door, and she quickly got in. I stared at the glass of scotch in my hands, Nicole stared at me for a while before nestling me in her embrace.
"Tell me everything." I explained everything to her I remembered when she used to cringe at the thought of werewolves existing. I couldn't survive an argument without her reminder that I was a werewolf and I live in the midst of werewolves. I felt like I was asking too much from her to keep those too many secrets just because I wasn't careful. I wanted to shield her from all of it but she was going to find out sooner or later. I couldn't survive any more scenario where I was going to lie to her. Now, she takes it as a normal thing and most times stays out of the whole situation just for her to be safe.
"All of a sudden he wants to claim you just because you are his mate?"
"Yeah, apparently I do not have a choice."
"I know that you hate these rules by the Pack and all but isn't there a way out for someone like you that isn't interested in all of that?"
"I wish there was. I would have to die to meet the moon goddess or whoever is in charge of my fate." I have been seeking a plan to avert all of these but there seemed to be none. If there was something I was sure of was that, Andres could find me and fish me out even if I was anywhere in the world. He was connected to a lot of things that were both legal and legal. The law was dancing at his fingertips and he didn't get reprimanded by it. As werewolves we were supposed to keep a low profile but he loved the chaos. The moment where he gsfride and brimstone just to get what he wants.
"So what is your plan?"
"I do not have one… I thought I wasn't going to be paired considering the fact I do not shift under the full moon. I thought it was going to be the same for my partner."
Nicole poured herself a drink and rushed everything in one gulp. "Well, you said so yourself. Someone else is in charge of your fate and that person or being thinks otherwise. You can't change what has happened but you can decide what is going to happen next if you do something about it."
Disappearing wasn't an option, I do not want to leave Dad in that manner, it was disrespectful and he was the type overworked about the littlest thing. The company was in no shape to lose a valuable member, I need to leave before I make any more plans.
"My guts tells me there is more. Dad is not tekking.me something that I need to know. I intend to find out before I make any plans to do anything at all."
"Do you have any idea what they might be hiding?"
I shook my head. "But I'm pretty damn sure it is about me and my future with that monster. Something doesn't just feel right, maybe my brothers are included too."
Tears filled my eyes again. "I just feel alone, I feel I'm being left In the dark for no just cause. My life is falling apart."
"It may feel like that but it is not. I mean,if humans could love the way werewolves could love, it would be lovely.."
"It's just a means to control you, nothing more. It is not something you should pray for."
Nicoke shook her head, with all seriousness. Most times she gets carried away while she forgets that there is always a bad side to most stories. "All I'm yo sat is that, your life is not falling apart."
The doorbell didn't ring this time, someone was fumbling with the locks. Nicole was very much scared and poking me to care but I knew who it was. Dad and Noah came into sight.
"Scarlett, we need to talk about you and Andres."
"Great, I was wondering when you were going to arrive, I have a lot of questions too."
Dad was not looking happy but neither was I.
