Chapter 7: Going Under

1234 Words
Scarlett Pov There was no way out. Andres. Ade that perfectly clear, he was a man you could reason with but not for long. His pride was getting in the way, no matter how I tried I couldn't make sense of it. Why me? Why does he have to be this difficult? I wanted to protest but I was in his territory. Anything could have happened to me and he wouldn't have taken responsibility for it. Andres was a confusing man and I have cracked my brain to look for ways to pull through to him. Nothing was making sense, I felt like I was missing a very huge chunk of information. The pain that this .ess was first hidden from me at first, hurts my very being. I haven't been able to concentrate but Noah called for a board meeting. I needed to go to work, these were the times where I wished that Nicole was here to just be with me. Days like this were pretty difficult and it was like a more complex thing to pick myself up, in times like this. I drove to the office, there was no point in going home first. I wasn't ready to face Dad, because he was going to talk me into doing something I was not cut out for. I was at the place that seemed empty but after focusing, I realised that most of them were too busy to even notice their boards coming in. I went straight to my office. I stood at the entrance for quite some time, reminiscing. There was a time when I used to enjoy working there, but now everything felt so bland. The things that I do so effortlessly, were taking all of my mental and physical strength. I exhaled as I cleared out my desk and prepped my computer. There was a slight knock on the door, Celine was at the door with a huge smile on her face. "Good day ma'am, I brought you your schedule for the week." I gestured that she dropped it on the desk without giving her another glance. I could still sense her presence, staring at her with a confused look, I asked. "Why are you still standing there? What are you waiting for?" "Oh I'm sorry. Mr Noah, asked to see you. He said it is really urgent and you ate mkt to waste another second." I glared at her as he raised her tone. "Sorry ma'am, those were his exact words with the right tone." Celine was not the type to read the environment, if she did she would have realised that I wasn't in the mood to talk or being relayed any message that might lead to endless onboard meetings. I could barely walk to a certain area without zoning out and sinking in endless thought. I dismissed Celine, having her around was pissing the hell out of me. I breathed making my way to meet Noah, It was down the hall. The one with the transparent door and good scenery. He had always loved to maintain his office like his second home because most of the times he worked late and other times,, we do not even see him at all. I didn't bother to knock, I just slid the door and gently walked in. The picture that had the whole family in it was what I sighted first, I loved how we were so happy until my elder brothers left. Using wanting to handle the other businesses as an excuse to be away from our demanding father. Noah had always had a sense of duty and he said not wanting to leave me alone, which I deeply appreciate. "Are you so lost and empty inside that you've lost your sense of courtesy?" He smiled at me. I rolled my eyes, looking for the right words to avert this banter that was brewing. "There is no need for knocking. I'm your younger sister, I storm any place in the building as I like and that includes Dad's office." "Well it's good your Old man is about to retire." "Hasn't he already? He spends his time at home and scrolling through the New York Times daily content. Retirement has already happened for him." He rejected in his chair scrutinising me with his look as introduced to tick off some certain tasks on my schedule. "Where were you this morning?" "I do not want to talk about it." "Well, you will have to because with all the things we want to discuss, you would need your clear head whether you like it or not. So, spill." I exhaled, staring outside the window. "I went to see Andres, to try to reason with him. It turns out that he is just as hard as a rock. Besides, I had to leave the house quite early because I wasn't ready to face Dad. You know how he gets." "I know that everything is a mess, you should really talk to Dad, the idea of you not speaking to him puts me in the middle. Just talk to him, at least long enough before he flares up again." Noah's expression changed. It was there I knew something was terribly wrong. Niah was not the type to complain about anything because he always thinks of handling every situation. "I know something is wrong, what is it?" "We are going bankrupt. Every line of our business is in danger of going bankrupt." He stared around before moving to sit close to me, he bent his head forward whispering. "There are some illegal ventures that are tied to mostly the company's account. I have just confirmed it. Every dealer that has ever worked with the company is getting better deals and wants to back out." "I mean why are we not trying to win them over. It's business, if we think we ate being tossed aside look for ways to get back up." From the way he was looking, tired and frustrated. Something tells me that we were just at the edge of everything. Standing g from that view, Noah knows the ground is too feeble to hold our feet, that's if we do not fall over the cliff first. "I think we have a new competitor in the market. They are dusting us off the radar, I know it is business and even for this competitor things might be worse for them when someone else pushes them out of their own game too. Then, if I should really be honest, we might be under before we see that day coming." My heart started racing, this was not good news. "We need to come up with a plan because it seems this new competitor in the market is ready to dust us off." While trying to head the company legal team, I had seen some irregularities every time we worked on some cases with the company funds. Dad obviously does not have a perfect explanation for it but I just figured that if we did not talk about it, I just took care of it. Now, everything might come out in the open and the damage we were trying to fix might just help us sink faster. "Yes we do. We need to create a plan and fast. Also we also need to figure out a way to inform Dad." That won't be good.
