Empty spaces

502 Words
Myra went back to work filled up with her new found confidence. Work seemed easy, life was amazing. Emma was growing everyday and was 5 years old now, felt as if time just flew by and Myra dedicated all her time in raising Emma, watching her grow and looking at her smile made her heart fill with joy. Myra felt content but there was an empty space in her heart, a certain loneliness which she had been avoiding since last few years. Every time her mother would ask her to start dating she felt like she should agree with her but would end up saying no not yet or she would simply say things will happen when they are meant to and avoid discussion on that subject. Myra could see why her parents are worried, after all they are in their 70's and worry about who is going to look after her and Emma and could feel the disappointment in her mother's voice and the worries on her face. Myra was just worried about what if she ran into some guy who turned out to be a friend of Jake's and she foolishly disclosed she had a daughter from a previous marriage. What if the guy tells Jake he would surely come after her to get Emma for money. Jake was married now for almost 5 years and had 2 sons from his second wife. His other wife had left him for the same reasons, he and his parents wanted money from her she took her boys and had filed a divorce and unlike Myra who did not ask for anything but to be left alone, the second wife had taken half of what he had owned and also forced to pay support for the two boys. Jake was now working with his father in his company and was looking for means of easy side income and finding out that Emma exists would make his life easier as he could take her to court and it would be a messy battle. If somehow he got the custody he would make Myra pay just like he and his parents did when they threatened her parents. Myra thought about everything and went to her mother and said she is ready to give love another chance but under one condition, she will not tell the men she dated that she had a daughter to ensure Emma's safety. Her mother was overjoyed with the news and asked Myra to call her friends and find her a date with a decent guy. Myra called her friends to meet her at a nearby restaurant for lunch but did not disclose the reason as she wanted the news to be surprising and to also catch their reactions towards how they feel. The date was set for Saturday at 7:00 PM in the evening at the restaurant. Myra was excited to share the news and was also slightly worried if she was being selfish or if it was too soon.
