CHAPTER 4 —   "Omygosh! It was renovated!" Kyla exclaimed as we entered Hexon's house, I wandered around, everything in here changed. "When is the last time we went here?" she asked, I shrugged at her.  "I think two months ago or three,"  She nods at me, "I think we're early as the call time," she said and grinned at me. I rolled my eyes on her,  "I told you, you're just too excited," I murmured.  She called me a lot of times a while ago, she wants me to rush, I told her that it is still early but she kept on saying that we're gonna be late.  "I want to surprise, Hexon! I actually told him that you're not coming," she said.  I look at her, "I thought..." She shook her head, "Nah, let's just surprise him, I'm sure he's still preparing upstairs," she said and look at me.  I raised my brow to her, "It's his birthday, Kyla," I said.  She gave an innocent look, "What? We're just going to surprise him, Dems."  "I know that look, you can't fool," she laughed at me and walked inside.  I smiled at Manang Seren as I went inside, "Oh, Demetra and Kyla, it's been a while since the two of you went here," Manang said.  "We're pre-occupied in our school works and activity, Manang Seren."  I replied. She nods at us, "I see, by the way Hexon is in his room, he's preparing,"  "Thank you, Manang. Can we go there?" Kyla asked, she nods at us, "Of course, Kyla. You and Demetra are always welcome here,"  I bow to Manang before we went upstairs, Kyla tried to open the door knob but failed, it's locked. She glanced at me and frowned.  "What the hell?" she asked me before she knock, she frowned when no one open the door.  "Is he there? Maybe he's not—" I was interrupted when the door suddenly open but... it's not Hexon. "What the hell, Dizen!" Kyla exclaimed as she stares at him.  Dizen's forehead wrinkle, "Why are you here? And don't shout, Kyla. You're so loud," he said, he's wearing a simple button up shirt.  I pursed my lips as I stared at them, "I should be the one asking you, why are you in Hexon's room!" Kyla said as her eyes widened, I chuckled at her.  I know what she's thinking, Dizen glanced at me and chortled too.  He smirked and turns at Kyla, "What do you think?" he asked playfully.  "Are you... gay?" she asked carefully, as if she's afraid the she might offend him.  Dizen and I laughed, I knew it.  "You're so funny, Kyla." Dizen said and laughed at her, Kyla frowned at him and hit his head lightly.  "You, i***t! I'm asking seriously and you're just laughing at me," she said as she continuously hit him, "What the f**k, stop it," Dizen said as he held Kyla's arm.  I bit my lips as I stared at them, they look good together, I'm just watching them argue when Hexon went out and saw us.  I smiled and walked towards him, "Hey, happy birthday!" I uttered at him sweetly.  "Demetra," he said and hugged me. I laughed at him and took a step back, "You look so shock to see me, huh."  Hexon's laughed, "Kyla said your father didn't let you go because you're grounded," he said and look at Kyla.  His lips parted as he saw Kyla and Dizen arguing, he glanced at me, "They know each other?" he asked.  I shrugged, "They're childhood friends," I said to him.  "Hexon!" Kyla said and ran towards to Hex and hugged him, "Happy birthday, asshole!"  Hexon laughed and pitched Kyla's nose, "Your mouth," he said to her.  Kyla rolled her eyes on him, "My mouth is still a mouth, Hex. Aren't you surprise that Dems is here?" she said and smirked at him. "What are you? A prankster?" Hexon said sarcastically, I laughed at what he said, Kyla groaned at him.  "What the hell, you're so stupid," Kyla fired back, she squints at him and make a face.  "Brat," Dizen whispered but we heard it, Kyla turns at him, "What did you say, you punk," she said.  I pursed my lips, "Kyla," I said to get her attention.  She looks at me, I shook my head to her, she hissed and pouted. "I didn't know that the two of you are friends," Hexon said while looking at Kyla and Dizen.  "I didn't know either," Kyla said sarcastically and went inside Hexon's room, I and Hexon shared a knowing look as we followed her, Dizen went in too.  "What are you doing here a while ago," Kyla asked as she looks at Hexon and Dizen.  I bit my lips to hide my laughter, here we go again, Hexon looks confused as he looks at her while Dizen is just smirking and leaning on the wall.  "What's with that question?" Hexon asked.  "I mean the two is here, and the door is locked, what did you do?" Kyla raised her brow to them.  Hexon scoffed, "You're not thinking what I think you're thinking, right?"  I burst in laughter at what he said, "You're guessing it right, Hex." I said.  "What the hell, Kyla," Hexon said and laughed afterwards, even Dizen is laughing silently.  "What the hell is wrong with all of you, I'm asking seriously," Kyla hissed at us.  Hexon shook his head and look at her. "He's my cousin, Kyla. He's brought my clothes here and the door knob is broken, it automatically locks,"  Kyla pouted, "Tss, you can't blame me! You never lock your door, Hex!"  I sighed and sat on the couch, "You grown up being judgemental, huh," Dizen said, he was referring to Kyla. He sat beside me, I smiled at him.  "Shut up, Dizen. I'm just being logical," Kyla said and roller her eyes on Dizen.  "If you say so," he said and shrugged.  "What time will the party start?" I asked, Hex glanced at me. "There's already a guest downstairs but I'll go down after thirty minutes, I'll just changed my clothes.  I nods at him, "Where's Beriana?"  He sighed heavily and shrugged, "We broke up, Dems. Kyla didn't told you that?"  My lips parted, "She did, but I just expect that you're already back together, I think this is the longest time that you broke up," I muttered to him. He smiled at me, "Let's talk about that some other time, Dems. For now, let's just enjoy the night," he said.  "Okay, let's schedule it, it's been a while since we have our bond," I said.  "Yes, Dems." he beamed at me, "I'll just changed first," he said and went in his dressing room.  Kyla stood up and went to the mirror, she fixed her dress, "I really love this dress," Kyla said as she ramp her clothes in front of me.  I laughed at her, "Any clothes fits in you, Kyla You really slayed it," I said and look at her with adoration.  "You're really my confidence booster, Dems."  I shook my head, I'm just saying the truth,"  I replied to her.  She smiled at me and glance at Dizen, he's just seating comfortable while looking at us, his brow furrowed when he saw us looking at him. "What?" he asked.  He turns at Kyla, "You want me to say something?" he quest to her.  "What can you say about it?"  "Well, Demetra is right. You look good in anything you wear," he said. Kyla smiled, "Geez, thanks," she said and head out.  "Hey! Where are you going?" I exclaimed to her, she glance at me, "I'll just fetch Piloer, I'll be right back!" she said and walked out.  I pursed my lips, I'm not used at talking to anyone except to my friends so I just kept my mouth shut.  I took a glimpse at him when I felt him stood up, he walked towards the bed and sat there.  He smiled at me, "I feel like you're uncomfortable so I went here," he said.  I gasped and look at him apologetically, "It's not that, I'm sorry," I apologize, did I offend him.  "No, it's fine," he uttered.  I pursed my lips and stayed quiet, "When did you become friends with Kyla?" he asked.  "Hmm, we're grade ten that time, she's a b***h back then," I said and chortled as I remember how we became friends.  "She is? Hmm, care to tell me?" I shook my head and laughed, "Well, she hates me for being a Homer, ahm, no, she hates me because of my brother, do you know Nathan?" I asked.  He nods at me, "Yes, I know everyone in your family," he stated. . "Really?"  "Your family is very popular," he said.  "You're right, ohh, I was saying, she's bullying me at first but then something weird happened and we became friends, like best of friends,"  "Your brother rejected her, right?" he asked, I chuckled and nod at him multiple times.  "Yes, she can't messed up with Dysthe so she set her eyes on me," I told him and chuckled "Did you just transfer in our school? I mean, our first encounter is just this school year so it means that..." "Ohh, yeah," he said.  My attention turned to Hexon when he went out, I smiled as I scanned him, "You look dashing, Hex." I muttered to him.  He smirked at me, "Thanks, Demetra. Where's Kyla?" he asked as he roamed around.  "She went out, she said she'll fetch someone, it's her friend." I said.  He nods at me and turns at Dizen whose seating on comfortable on his bed, "Did you talked to your Uncle about your decision in handling the company? I'm sure—"  "Let's not talk about, Hex. But yes, I already talked to him and he said that it's fine," he replied and glanced at me. Hexon sighed, "I'm sorry, bro. Demetra is a trusted friend of mine so you don't have to worry," Hex said, he looks at me but I just smiled. "It's fine, Hex. It should be private conversation, should I go out?" I asked politely.  "No, I just want talked to it, it's not because of you," he said and smiled.  "Let's just enjoy this night, it's your day, Hexon. We should celebrate your status, after three years you're already single," Dizen said teasingly, Hexon raised his middle finger to Dizen.  "f**k you, at least I'm not a snob and single like you, Dizen," he fired back.  "Well, I want someone who is worthy of attention," he said.  Hexon laughed, "You have a freaking high standard, bro, you rejected a lot of a girl when we were high school."  "You're a womanizer that time, Hex. Imagine my shock when you said you have a girlfriend and not a fling," Dizen said and shrugged.  "Well, love really has a way to changed us," he said and look at the mirror to fix his clothes.  I stood up and went to his side, he looks at me, "Hmm,"  "Your tie, I'll fix it for you," I said, I waited for his answer but he just shrugged, "Go on," he said.  He's looking at me while I'm doing fixing it, "What?" I asked.  "You look gorgeous, Dems." he said, I smiled at him, "Thanks," "How's your heart?" I asked.  He dropped his smile and shook his head, "Fine, I guess? We really need a break, I don't want her to feel that I'm being an uptight boyfriend but I just can't help but to feel jealous sometimes, her ex is back," he murmured, he closed his eyes tightly. "If she really loves you, then you don't to worry, Hex. Well, you should trust her because a relationship without it really turns to be broken," I look at him and  tapped his shoulder, "We're friends for too long, I witnessed how much you love her, so don't let something like that to destroy the foundation you built,"  He stares at me, "Thank you, Dems. You really know the right words to say," he said and kissed my forehead.  "Well, like what you have said, I'm your sister even though we're not blood-related, I want the best for you," I told him. Hexon is a good man, he's gentleman and loving. I actually feel that he's more likely my brother that Nathan.  He chuckled, "How lucky I can get to have Demetra Homer as my sister, huh," he said jokingly,  I rolled my eyes on  him.  "Shut up, Hexon," I said and pushed him a little.  "Let's go downstairs, let's make this night a blast," he said and smirked naughtily.  We turns at the door when someone knock, "I'll open it," Hexon said.  I and Dizen nods, I look at him when I noticed that he's staring at me, "Hmm?" I hummed.  "You're close to Hexon," he stated, I beamed at him.  "Yap, he's like my brother, why?" He shrugged, "Nothing, by the way, are you close to your sister?" he asked. I pursed my lips, "Yes,"  "I like her personality, she's brave," he said, I smiled widely at him. "Dysthe is really strong woman, well, that's my sister," I said proudly.  I saw how his lips parted as he stares at me, "You're really in good terms? I heard a lot of gossip that you and Dysthe hates each other," he said.  I frowned, "You shouldn't believe everything you heard, people are great at making stories, my relationship with my sister is intact as rock," I muttered to him.  "I'm sorry about that," he said, he lend me his hand, I look at him with confusion. "What?" I asked.  He smiled, "Let's go downstairs, Hexon already went down," he said, I glance at door and he's right, Hex wasn't there anymore. "I can handle," I said and refused to take his hand, as what I have said, people are judgmental, they easily create conclusion to things without knowing the sides of the stories. "Okay, Demetra," he said, I chuckled as he mention my  name.  As we went out, I heard the loud noise outside, "Guess they're having fun already," Dizen said.  I nod at him. "Let's find Kyla and Piloer, I'm sure Hexon is entertaining his guest," I told him.  When we finally get down,  I saw a lot of familiar faces, they're just familiar to me, "I already saw them, let's go," he said, I followed him and there, I saw Kyla and Piloer standing near the round table.  "Omygosh, Dizen!" Piloer exclaimed and ran towards Dizen, she hugged him tightly. He held her waist and laughed.  "You grown up, Piloer," Dizen said and tapped her head, Piloer pouted at him. "Of course! Kyla told me that you're still no girlfriend since birth, huh, what the hell are you doing in your life, Dizen," Piloer said like it's unbelievable to believe.  I stared at Dizen, is that true? I mean, it's so rare to see a man like him, he's so preserved.  "What's wrong with that? I don't like hook-ups," he said and shrugged, I pursed my lips as I walked beside Kyla.  She gave a glass, I glare at her, "I won't drink, Kyla. You know that, stop trying you can't convince me," I said and chuckled at her.  She tsked, "It's fun to drink, Dems. Sometimes you have to try it, even just once," she said.  "Don't be a bad influence to her, alcohol is not good for our health," we look at Dizen as he spoke.  Kyla rolled her eyes, "Omygosh, Dizen. You're saying as if you're not an alcoholic person,"  Piloer and I chuckled, "Tss, that's why I'm saying that she shouldn't," Dizen mockingly to her.  Kyla was about to say something when the mc spoke, "Are you all ready for tonight?!" he yelled energetically.  "Yes?!" I chuckled as Kyla and Piloer shouted in excitement.  "Tonight, we're gonna celebrate the birthday of our handsome celebrant, Mr. Hexon Vasper!"  Everyone clapped as Hexon went to the stage, he smiled playfully, "What's up everyone!" he exclaimed.  I shook my head as I saw his smirked, he will probably have a good night.  "Before we start, I just want all of us to have toss, let's raised our glass," Hexon uttered.  Everyone followed him even me, but I'm just holding a glass of water.  "For the celebration of my birthday, let's cheers," he said and drink the alcohol, everyone did the same thing.  I sipped my water, I look at Piloer, her face crumbled, "What the hell! It tastes bad," she said as she stuck her tongue and link the lemon.  Dizen laughed, "Don't tell me this is the first time you try to drink?"  Piloer tsked, "Shut up, Dizen. They said that it taste good but damn, it's gross for the f**k sake," she said, she's sipped the lemon.  We look at Hexon when he stopped in front of us, "You guys are you fine here?" he asked, I nods at him. "We're fine, you don't have to worry about us," I said to assure him. His gaze turns to Piloer, then back to me, "She's the friend you're saying?" he asked, I nods at him.  "Yep, she's Piloer, Kyla and Dizen's childhood friend," I said.  Piloer smiled, "Hi! Happy birthday, Hexon! I'm Piloer Loszerno." she said in a bubbly way but she still looks shy.  I smiled at that, Hexon beamed, "I remember you, you're the girl in the play ground, right?" Hexon asked.  She chuckled, "Yap," "Nice to meet you," Hexon said in a polite way. "Pleasant to meet you, too," she said.  Hexon turns to Dizen, "Our cousins are looking for you,"  he said and pointed the table in opposite part of the pool where we are standing.  Dizen chuckled, "What the f**k, they look an i***t with those smile flustered in their face," he said, Hexon also laughed.  "Let's go, they're waiting for us," Hexon said, he glanced at us, "Is it okay—" "Just go, Hexon. It's your birthday, you don't need to mind us, we're fine," Kyla said in a serious manner.  I also smiled at Hexon, "You should enjoy, go," he nods at me and walked away.  "Do you want to play something?" I look at Piloer, "What game?" I asked.  Kyla frowned, "I don't trust your games, Piloer." she said to her but Piloer just laughed.  "Let's try never have I ever, if you already did I mention then you have to drink—" "I can't drink, my father will get mad,"  I said to her, she pouted at me. "Then you have to tell us the story behind those that you did, so the mechanics is I'll tell something I never did and see if you already did it, and next person who will tell something is Demetra then Kyla," she said.  "We're not a kid anymore—" "Stop complaining and just try to go on the flow, Kyla."  "I'm game," I uttered to her, she smiled sweetly at me then turns at Kyla. I also stared at Kyla, she raised her brow to me, "Don't be a killjoy, Kyla, let's just try," I said to her.  She sighed at us, "Okay, game, start it," she said as she looks at Piloer. "Okay, never have I ever kissed someone in the bar," Piloer said and smirked.  I shrugged and look at Kyla, "What? I still haven't kiss—" "You did," I said and laughed at her.  "I was drunk that time," she said and frowned, "Isn't that a valid reason?" she asked but Piloer shook her head.  "You still kissed him, whether you're drunk or not," she said and smirked at Kyla.  "Tss," she said before she drink  a glass of alcohol, I think it's vodka.  "Your turn, Demetra," I link my lips, "Ahm, never have I ever try to sneak out," I said hesitantly.  I heard Kyla groaned, "What the hell, Dems!" I laughed at her, I look at Piloer when she drink the glass of tequila.  "Geez," she said and sipped the lemon immediately, I chuckled.  "Don't force yourself, Piloer, it's your first time and it's hard drink," Kyla said as she warned her.  "I'm fine, drink now, Kyla. I'm sure you always sneak out,"  I shrugged at them, "Your turn, Ky."  She smirked, "Never have I ever like someone who is younger than me," Kyla is staring at Piloer in a teasing way. "I was a kid back then! I still haven't think about that age thing," Piloer reason out but Kyla shrugged, "No excuse, you still like him," she said mockingly.  Piloer groaned and rolled her eyes, "So okay, never have I ever lied to my best friend about who I was with,"  I shrugged and turns to Kyla, she looks at me innocently but then slowly she sighed and drink the glass of vodka, my lips parted, "Really?" I asked.  Piloer laughed, "You're doomed, Kyla," she said.  Kyla scratch her nose, "Well, it was a long time ago when I said I was with my family but the truth is... I'm really stalking your brother," she muttered. I pursed my lips and laughed, "What the hell, Kyla!" I held my stomach as I laugh even more, Piloer is laughing too.  "Bitches! That's way back then!" she exclaimed in annoyance.  I shook my head, "You're really obsessed to Nathan before, huh." I said and chuckled.  "Shut up, Dem. So next," she said and widened her eyes on me.  "Hmm, never have I ever cheated on someone," I said, I glanced at Kyla and Piloer but no one pick the glass.  I smiled, "That's good to know," I said and chuckled.  "I never cheat because I was the who got cheated on," she stated and shrugged.  My lips parted, "Oh, someone cheated on you?"  She nods at me, "Well, that's his loss, not mine,"  "That's my girl," Kyla said proudly.  "So me again, never have I ever received a serenade," Kyla said.  I shrugged at them, my lips turned 'O' when Piloer drink the glass, "Damn it," she said as she swallowed it. "Wow, I love old tradition of courting," Kyla said.  Piloer shook her head, "Ew, he was the one who cheated on me for damn sake, well, he's my only ex," she said in disgust.  "What the hell," I said.  She nods at me, "Yah, what the hell, right?" she replied.  "What's the reason he gave to you?" Kyla asked.  Piloer shrugged, "He fell out of love," she said. "He should have been broken up with you before he commits himself to other girl," I said, that's kinda disgusting and petty, his excuse sucks.  Piloer nods, "Yas—"  Piloer was interrupted when Dizen and Hexon came in a sudden, "What's up, ladies and gentleman," Hexon said and laughed. I shook my head and laughed at him, "Freak," I whispered.  "Shut up, broken hearted man," Dizen said playfully, Hexon raised his middle finger, "f**k you, bro,"  "I can't, we're not— what the f**k!" Hexon hits Dizen head, we laughed at them. Dizen pushed Hexon playfully, "Asshole, be thankful that it's your birthday," "Thanks, bro," Hexon said.  My eyes widened when they fell on the pool, "What a crazy human-being," Kyla said, I chuckled. They were playing at the pool like a kid, "What are you guys waiting for? Let's have fun and enjoy!" Hexon said, the music intensified as others jumped into the pool.  "They'll have a hangover tomorrow, have fun now and suffer tomorrow," Piloer said.  I was just watching them when my phone rang, it's the unknown number. : Hmm, hello? [Is this Demetra's sister? She's left her phone here, I couldn't find her so I just called you, there's a lot of miscalled from your parents,] I gasped, what the hell? [I'm Sachzna Yvañes, I'm here in the first floor of the bar, you'll see a round high table when you enter,] :Okay, thank you! I said and ended the call. I sighed heavily and look at Kyla, she's now looking at me.  "Who's that?" she asked.  I link my lips, "I think I need to go,"  Her forehead wrinkle, "Why? Is that Uncle Jonathan?"  I shook my head, "I need to find Dysthe," I said.  "What? Where is she?"  "She lost her phone and someone called me that she's in Alouette's Feral Bar, it's an exclusive bar, I need to go," I told her. I look at Piloer, I smiled at her, "I'll go," I said, I look at Kyla, she's frowning.  "Just tell to Hexon that I went home, okay?" I told her.  She sighed and nod, "Take care," she said and hugged me.  I tapped her back, "I'll chat you when I'm home," I said, she just nods at me.  "Drive carefully," Piloer said.  I beamed at her, "I will,"  I closed my eyes tightly as I went inside the car, what are you doing, Dysthe Jacintha?  —    In every joy, there will be sadness.
