Fourty minutes later, I am helping Theo and Marcus pack the car, while Harlan is walking the perimeter with David and going over their plans one last time. Once Theo made his teasing comment of me ‘using my magic to reset the angry boss’, the conversations between me and the guys went back to normal, as though the last 48 hours never really happened. For a second, I almost forgot myself, until David and Harlan come back, meeting me by the safe-house door. Harlan is carrying a duffel bag, and looking at me a little weirdly. Apologetically. I look between him and David as they walk up to me. “Everything okay?” I ask hesitantly as they stand in front of me. “Harlan has some things for the drive home.” David says, his voice stoic, boss-like, but his eyes hinting a softer side to his words.
