Kathryn 35 Heavy exhaustion pressed down on Kathryn’s shoulders. Sorting clothes was not what she wanted to be doing right then. She walked away from the laundry and sank into the couch. Janet and Mica both snuggled against her legs. She wondered what Heather was doing right then. Ever since her last phone call, Kathryn had been more than worried. Heather should be home. She needed Heather. And Heather needed her. They were a team. They’d always been. Some people just weren’t parent material, and that was true of Heather’s biological father.
