Heather 58 “Here are the results.” The oncologist pushed the images across his desk toward the three of them. They looked at the scans and then back to the doctor. “What does it show?” Heather asked. She held her breath and looked to the oncologist for signs of the answer before he said anything aloud. What she saw on his face filled her stomach with stones. “There is a pea-sized tumor on the left lobe of your liver, Heather.” His tone held no emotion, but it wasn’t without kindness. Heather inhaled deeply and her face crumpled into a grimace. She curled in her chair and sobbed aloud, emotional heat shimmering off of her skin, evaporating any hope she once held.
