Heather 27 “What?” Dismay rocked through Heather. “I’m so sorry, Heather.” Jill kicked her car tire. They were in the parking lot of Sam Bond’s Garage. The January night was dark and rainy, but Jill had wanted to talk privately so they were out in the drizzle. Now Heather knew why. This was terrible. “I have to go, Jill.” She grabbed Jill’s wrist. “You know why.” Heather hadn’t let Jill tell anyone else about her cancer. Only Kyle knew, and that was because Jill told him before Heather could swear her to secrecy. And, of course, Tonya knew. Heather’s stomach soured.
