I was on hand to greet the returning SEAL team along with most of the base-personnel. After acknowledging the congratulations, Sergeant Hanson and his small team followed me to the op’s room for the debriefing.
Once they’d finished, Sergeant Hanson asked, “Any update on Captain Gianni’s condition?”
“I received a report shortly before you landed.” I replied. “Not great news I’m afraid. During emergency surgery they had to amputate his leg just below the knee.”
Hanson seemed quite upset. “I’m really sorry to hear that. Captain Gianni was the true hero of this op. If it wasn’t for him that guard would have killed all the hostages.”
“I agree. The Foundation will ensure that he and his family are well taken care of. That’s the least we can do to reward him for his bravery.”
