~Katarina~
I’m not sure that was how things were supposed to go.
What would you have me do, Hope? She’s a threat to our child, to our family. Was I supposed to ignore that and play nice?
We could have at least gotten the whole story before locking her up. I sigh, knowing that Hope is right.
The plan was to go to her room and talk to her. I had no intention of getting aggressive or locking her up. The moment I put my eyes on her, I just couldn’t help it. The premonition kept running through my mind, and I couldn’t ignore the emotions that came from that.
I walk into the office and throw myself on the couch. I stare up at the ceiling and let out a long sigh. “Can I take it that things didn’t go well?” I don’t move from my spot, not wanting to face my mate. “Katarina?” I swallow and shift my body. I want to be comfortable, but I don’t think that’s possible under the circumstances.
I feel the couch shift under me as his heat covers me completely. As soon as I feel the sparks on my arm, I let my eyes close. I could stay like this all day and enjoy every second of it. Too bad there’s so much to do when you’re running a pack. “Talk to me.”
“I messed up, I know I did.” I sit up and shift on the couch until I can lay my head on his shoulder. “I know the plan was to talk to her and let her tell me what was going on. The moment I set eyes on her, I couldn’t help myself. The premonition wouldn’t stop running in my mind. My anger got the best of me. I… I had Danny put in the cells.” I turn my head to look at my mate. There’s sympathy in his eyes, and I need that right now. He leans down to kiss me, but a voice stops us cold.
“You sent Danny where?!”
~Dominic~
As I walk up to the packhouse, something feels off. There’s this tension in the air that is making everything uncomfortable. Pack members are looking at me as if they know something that I don’t.
I don’t focus on them, but keep walking. Maybe having not been around my mate much is starting to get to me. I know that she’s upstairs, though I have no idea what she’s doing. Maybe I should check on her to make sure she’s okay.
I walk into the packhouse and head straight to the stairs. I won’t lie, but the tension is thicker in this packhouse than it was outside. I don’t know what that’s about, but I will probably look into that after checking on my mate. Calling her our mate now, huh?
I never denied that she was our mate. I’m just not sure if we can trust her.
I walk up the stairs and make a split decision to stop at the Alpha office before going to my floor. I want Aston to know that I’m here. He may need me to fill in for him at some point.
I get to the office and find the door slightly ajar. I hear voices coming from inside, and I stop. I’m not one to overstep my boundaries and get into others’ business. Since the door was open, I guess I’m in the clear.
I move closer to the door, ready to go inside, until I hear the conversation. “My anger got the best of me. I… I had Danny put in the cells.” My heart stalls, and I swear I stop breathing. I try to put the words together, but I feel like there’s a glitch somewhere.
It doesn’t take me long to break out of my haze, and when I do, I push the door open. I step across the threshold, keeping my fists at my side. These are my Alpha and Luna. I’m good friends with them, and I can’t disrespect them. My anger is threatening to consume me as I look in their direction. “You sent Danny where?!”
I’m feeling so many emotions right now, the strongest being anger and fear. I know I had my reservations about my mate, and I haven’t been able to put them at ease. It’s the fact that she was sent to the cells without my knowledge that’s getting to me. Did she hurt someone? Did she threaten someone? Did she do something else that put her in the cells?
Aston shifts on the couch and faces me. “Katarina put her in the cells. She had a premonition, and she got a bit… excited.” I look at Katarina, and it’s confusing. She looks justified, but she also looks guilty. I’m not sure what that’s about, but it’s there… clear as day.
“So, she didn’t do anything?” Katarina clears her throat before speaking.
“No, not physically. I saw something that will happen down the road and it’s not good.”
“I thought that your premonitions aren’t concrete, that anything can change the outcomes.”
“You were the one who kept questioning your mate since she got here. You’ve had her on lockdown, trying to figure out what she’s up to. I put her in the cells based on information I received and you are questioning my actions? How the hell does that work?” I gulp, realizing that I probably crossed a line.
“I’d never question you, Luna Katarina. I… I was just curious ab-”
“Let’s stop this. Yes, Katarina put your mate in the cells. Yes, Dominic has been wary of his fated mate. I think we need to calm down and we need to go talk to her. Maybe we can get her to tell us who she is and why she’s here. We shouldn’t assume anything.” I try to regulate my breathing.
Aston makes sense, but I’m not sure it will work the way he hopes. I’ve been trying to get information from Danny, but she’s denied me access. I have no idea how to get her to open up. If she’s that determined to keep things to herself, no amount of locking her up will get her to talk. I can only hope that she’s ready to be open. “I will go talk to her and see if she’s ready to tell me how she ended up here.”
I turn and walk toward the door, trying to get my mind prepared for this conversation. I stop walking and turn back toward my Alpha and Luna. “I just want you to know that I take my position seriously. If my fated mate is a threat to this pack, to any of us, I’m prepared to let her go for the good of the pack. I promise, I will do what my position demands me to do.” They don’t respond, but I didn’t expect them to. I turn toward the door again and walk out of the office, ready to talk to my mate.
