“I… I…” I let a growl rip through the room. I can’t stand someone who takes forever to say what they need to say. He’s a young man and has no idea what a man is like. It’s disgusting to think that she thought she could raise him.
When I tie her to me, I will make sure I take over raising him into the man he needs to be. If I let her take over his upbringing, he will be soft. I plan to have her help raise the girl because she would need a mother’s touch. I will make sure she’s as hard as she needs to be to survive.
I tune back into the child in front of me and am instantly irritated. He’s still stuttering. “Get on with it already!” He steps back, and his body starts to shake. I roll my eyes and cross my arms over my chest. He definitely needs to toughen up.
“Where’s my sister?” His voice is soft like a female’s, and it’s annoying.
“She’s doing a job for me. She’ll be back soon, and we will be a family.” He looks up at me, and the look in his eyes is unnerving at best. I can’t quite decipher the emotion he’s emitting, but it doesn’t matter.
“Is that it? You’re bothering me when I have more important things to do.” He audibly gulps and shakes his head. He turns on his heel and hurries out of my office.
I lean back in the chair and shake my head. That was a waste of time for me. Now, I’m irritated and horny as hell. I could call that Omega back, but I don’t want to bother. The truth is that she’s a poor substitute for her. She couldn’t be her if she tried for a thousand years.
I let out a sigh and turn my head to look out the window. I will be happy when all this is over. I will have her, and I will have my weapon. No one will be able to stop me, and everyone will bow down to me. It will only be a matter of time, and I’m ready for it.

I back away from the stairs and move slowly toward the girl. I swear there’s no denying who her parents are. Her face is all the Alpha, but her eyes and her features are from the Luna. She’s adorable, and that makes my heart hurt. “Where are you coming from, little lady?” I really don’t want to interact with her; I don’t want to get close. I can’t leave her here all alone. I figure that she isn’t supposed to be up here.
“Uncle D.” She moves toward his apartment door. I guess she’s looking for my mate. They must be close if she’s seeking him out. It would explain finding a few toys and books around his place.
“He isn’t here, lovely. Maybe we can go find him.” By now, I’ve moved closer to her. I have my hand out, ready for her to latch on.
She looks at me, the door, and then back at me. She moves closer and wraps her small hand around my fingers. I almost swoon at her actions. I know it’s crazy, but babies are the cutest, and this one is next level.
I slouch a little so she doesn’t have to try to match my height. We slowly walk to the stairs, a light silence between us. I take a step down and wait for her to follow. I look down the stairs and realize that we will be here for a while. I turn, ready to pick her up. Before I can lift her, the air around us gets thin, and everything gets blurry.
My stomach gets queasy, and I swear my ears start to ring. I close my eyes tight and wrap my other hand around her tiny hand. I must be getting sick or something because I feel all wrong.
As quickly as everything started, it stops. My body begins to regulate, and the air is easier to breathe. I slowly open my eyes, and I fall backward, landing on my ass. The stairs are gone, like completely gone.
A moment ago, the stairs were behind us, going downward. Now the stairs are in front of us, going upward. I blink a few times, expecting everything to right itself, but nothing changes. I turn to look at the baby, and she has a big smile on her face. She isn’t looking at me, she’s looking past me. I turn to see what she’s looking at, and I see the Luna and Alpha. They are staring at us as if they just saw a ghost. “Wha… what just happened?”
I watch the Alpha hurry over to us and scoop up the baby. He checks her thoroughly and pulls her in close when he sees that she’s okay. Luna Katarina walks over to me and kneels down to my level. “Are you okay?”
“I… I… yeah, but what just happened?” She sighs and holds a hand out to me. I take her hand and let her help me off the ground. My legs are unsteady, but Luna Katarina holds me until I become stable.
"What happened is something that I don’t think was supposed to happen, I don’t think.” Alpha Aston walks toward us and stops next to the Luna.
“Did you do this growing up?” She sighs and holds out her hands to her daughter.
“I really don’t know. Mom didn’t leave any kind of diary or notes about me growing up. I don’t know what I could or couldn’t do. I would think I didn’t since I couldn’t do it until I was marked, but I really have no idea.”
“Maybe we should talk to Elder Nadia and see if she can shed light on this.” I’m still lost as they talk around me. I’m trying to figure out how I got downstairs without walking. I’m trying to figure out how a toddler could have the power to move us. Is this house magic or something? I’m confused, and the confusion is making my head hurt. “Let’s continue this in my office.” Luna Katarina, and Aston turn and walk toward the stairs. Luna Katarina stops and turns to me.
“I think you should come with us since you will be the Beta female of the pack.” My stomach drops at her words, but I don’t say anything. I slightly nod and follow behind them, hating myself more and more with each step.
