(Part 1) The courtyard remained silent long after Kael finished reading the message. "Seven nights remain." No one moved. No one spoke. Every warrior understood what those words meant. The Blood Moon was no ordinary full moon. It was the night when ancient magic awakened, forgotten curses resurfaced, and the balance between light and darkness could be broken forever. Kael slowly crushed the message in his fist. "Rowan." "Yes, Alpha." "Double the guards." "No one enters or leaves Blackthorn Pack without my permission." Rowan nodded. "It'll be done." Kael turned toward Aria. "You should get some rest." She stared at him in disbelief. "After everything that just happened?" "I'll be fine." "You nearly died tonight." "I'm used to running." Kael stepped closer, his voice softer than before. "Not anymore." "You don't have to run alone." For a brief moment, Aria forgot the ruined courtyard around them. She saw only Kael. The feared Alpha whose cold heart seemed to soften whenever he looked at her. Before either of them could say another word, Rowan interrupted. "My Alpha..." "The Council of Elders has arrived." Kael frowned. "They're early." "They demanded an emergency meeting." An hour later... Inside the Council Hall, twelve elders sat around a circular stone table. Each wore a silver cloak embroidered with the Blackthorn crest. As Kael entered with Rowan, every pair of eyes turned toward him. One elder slammed his staff against the floor. "You brought the girl into this castle." "You endangered every wolf under your protection." Kael remained calm. "I protected someone who needed help." Another elder shook his head. "No." "You brought the prophecy to our doorstep." "The Shadow Wolves haven't attacked Blackthorn in over a hundred years." "And now they're back." An elderly woman slowly stood. "If the Blood Fang Order wants the girl..." "Hand her over." Silence filled the room. Rowan's face darkened. "My Alpha..." Kael's eyes turned icy. "No." The elder frowned. "You would risk this entire pack for one stranger?" Kael answered without hesitation. "I don't abandon innocent people." The room erupted into angry voices. "She's cursed!" "She'll destroy us!" "The Alpha has lost his judgment!" Kael slammed his fist onto the stone table. The crack echoed throughout the hall. Instant silence followed. "I have made my decision." "No one will touch Aria." "If anyone disagrees..." He slowly looked around the room. "They're free to challenge me." No one spoke. No one dared. Meanwhile... Aria wandered through the castle gardens, unable to sleep. Moonlight reflected off the quiet lake at the center of the grounds. She knelt beside the water. Her reflection stared back at her. "You've brought nothing but trouble," she whispered. A gentle breeze disturbed the lake. Then... Her reflection smiled. Aria's heart skipped. She hadn't smiled. She stumbled backward. The reflection remained. It slowly lifted a hand. "Aria..." The voice came from the water itself. "You must find the Moon Temple." Aria looked around. No one was there. "Who's speaking?" "The answers you seek..." "...lie beneath the mountain." The reflection suddenly changed. Instead of her own face... She saw a beautiful woman with silver hair and glowing eyes. The same woman from her dreams. "My daughter..." Before Aria could answer, the lake exploded. A dark hand burst from the water and grabbed her ankle. She screamed. The creature dragged her toward the lake. "Help!" Its crimson eyes glowed beneath the surface. More hands emerged. One after another. Dozens of them. They wrapped around her legs, pulling her into the icy water. Aria fought desperately. She couldn't breathe. The darkness swallowed her whole. Suddenly— A powerful roar shook the gardens. Kael. He leaped into the lake without hesitation. His massive black wolf tore through the shadow creatures, forcing them to release Aria. He grabbed her just as she disappeared beneath the water. Moments later, they reached the shore. Aria coughed violently, struggling to breathe. Kael wrapped his cloak around her shaking shoulders. "Are you hurt?" She looked up at him, still trembling. "The lake..." "It spoke to me." Kael froze. "What did it say?" Aria swallowed hard. "It told me..." "...to find the Moon Temple." Before Kael could respond, the lake became perfectly still. Then, glowing silver letters slowly appeared across its surface. "The curse began where the first promise was broken." Kael's face drained of color. He whispered one name. "No..." "...not that place." PART 2: The Blood Moon Countdown Kael stared at the glowing words floating across the lake. "The curse began where the first promise was broken." The silver letters shimmered once... Then slowly disappeared beneath the dark water. Aria wrapped Kael's cloak tighter around herself. Although she had escaped the lake, she couldn't stop shivering. "Kael..." she whispered. "What place were you talking about?" He remained silent. His gaze never left the water. Finally, Rowan arrived with several warriors. "My Alpha! We heard Aria scream." Kael looked at him. "Seal this garden." "No one comes near this lake until I give the order." Rowan frowned but nodded. "Yes, Alpha." Back inside the castle, the healer insisted on examining Aria. "You're lucky," the elderly woman said while wrapping a bandage around Aria's wrist. "Whatever grabbed you wasn't trying to drown you." Aria frowned. "What do you mean?" "It left no wounds." The healer looked at the strange silver mark that had appeared on Aria's wrist. "It marked you." Aria's heartbeat quickened. The mark looked like a crescent moon surrounded by thorny vines. She had never seen it before. The healer stepped back nervously. "I've only read about this symbol in old legends." "What does it mean?" Aria asked. Before the healer could answer, Kael entered the room. "Leave us." The healer bowed and quietly left. Aria immediately held up her wrist. "You know what this is, don't you?" Kael sighed. "I know enough to be worried." "Then stop hiding the truth from me!" Her voice echoed through the room. "I've been hunted." "I've been lied to." "I don't even know who I really am!" She looked directly into his eyes. "If I'm risking my life..." "I deserve the truth." Kael was quiet for a long moment. Then he walked to the window. "When I was a child, my father told me a story." "A story about the first Alpha." "He made a sacred promise to the Moon Goddess." "But he broke that promise." "And when he did..." "A curse was placed upon his bloodline." Aria slowly stood. "Your bloodline." Kael nodded. "Every Alpha born into my family carries that curse." "My wolf grows stronger with every Blood Moon..." "But so does the darkness inside me." Aria stared at him. "So that's why they call you the Cursed Alpha." He gave a bitter smile. "Yes." "And according to the prophecy..." "The only person who can either break the curse..." "...or make it permanent..." He turned to face her. "...is you." Before Aria could process his words, a deafening explosion shook the castle. BOOM! The walls trembled. War horns blared across the fortress. Rowan's voice echoed through the corridor. "Alpha!" "The western gate has been breached!" Kael immediately drew his sword. "Stay behind me." They rushed outside. Smoke filled the courtyard. Broken stone and burning wagons littered the ground. Blackthorn warriors were already fighting. But these enemies weren't Shadow Wolves. They wore black armor marked with a crimson wolf's head. The Blood Fang Order. Standing at the center of the battlefield was a tall man with long white hair and glowing red eyes. He smiled when he saw Aria. "So..." "We finally meet." Aria froze. "You know me?" "Oh, much better than you realize." Kael stepped in front of her. "If you came for her..." "You'll leave empty-handed." The stranger laughed. "Still trying to protect her?" He slowly drew an ancient black sword. "You should ask your mate one question." Kael narrowed his eyes. "What question?" The man's smile widened. "Ask her..." "...why her nightmares always end with your death." Aria's face turned pale. She had never told anyone about those dreams. How did he know? Before anyone could react, the stranger pointed his sword toward the sky. The clouds above Blackthorn Castle turned blood red. A sinister voice echoed across the battlefield. "The countdown has begun." "Six nights until the Blood Moon." The stranger vanished into a swirl of black smoke, leaving only his chilling laughter behind. Kael turned toward Aria. She was staring at the crimson sky, tears filling her eyes. Because for the first time... She remembered the ending of her dream. She wasn't the one who died. Kael was.
