Who am I?

1089 Words
Who am I? that is a question that we all make to ourselves. Before we know it, it throws us through the existencial loop that we call fate or destiny. Maxine asks herself this question every day, "Who am I?", she asks looking in the mirror seeing her reflection, droopy, baggy eyes from the little sleep she was used to, dry skin from not taking care of herself the way she would like to. You see, Maxine is a werewolf, an Omega to be exact. The bottom of the food chain in the werewolf society. Being found on the border of the packlands at only a few weeks old, she was taken in, but only to be placed and taken care of by the most hateful of old shewolves. After only 5 years and a horrible lifestyle, she was made an Omega and made to serve the pack, waking up at the crack of dawn, or more or less the middle of the night to clean the pack house and make breakfast. Being 19, she can feel her wolf but she hasn't shifted, yet. Deemed to be unimportant in her pack she was made an Omega, a servant of sorts. Being stepped on and bullied all her life as far as she can remember is something that is on a day to day basis normal now to her. Scars adorn her golden skin, and bruises form around her emerald green eyes and go away due to her rapid healing as she is still a werewolf even though a weak one, or so they tell her. Her pack, The Blood Howlers, was one of the top three packs in the U.S., great fighters and a tight knit community, only when it came to the higher-ups. Omegas were never seen as equals or heard and much less her. She wakes up at 4 in the morning to do the cleaning in the pack house, wash laundry and make breakfast for all the pack members that include the Alpha and Luna of the pack. No one can say no to her cooking and baking, maybe a gift from the moon goddess in exchange for the lacking of other skills. After she has plated and served the breakfast she goes to get ready for College, being in junior year, she has to keep up the beat and good attendance, and the best grades so that she will not get punished for slacking off on her only privilege. Having to work hard every day is something that, after what she has been through gives her some kind of solace and meaning to the lonely life she thinks she will have to live. You see werewolves at the age of 18 find their mate, the person that is supposed to love you no matter what, and she did. But he rejected her immediately, even being another Omega from her pack, he could not find it in his heart to accept her, just because she wasn´t born in the pack but found on the outskirts when she was just a baby. This broke her making her thinking that she was not worthy of having a mate or that she was even more worthless as a person. Only two months later when a neighboring pack, the Crystal Lake Pack, came with a few of their unmated members, including a few Omegas, did she feel the pull again. The Moon Goddess had blessed her with a second chance mate and this time a Gamma! When she saw that and felt the pull and smelt his scent she was elated to say the least. She thought that he would surely accept her, being that there was only known to be second-chance mates and not anything further. But he rejected her on the spot, not accepting a lowly Omega as his mate. She felt to die on the spot. Having gone through those rejections, her only choice was to stay alone or have a chosen mate. But she thought no one would take her, not only because she was an Omega but because she already had been rejected twice. "GET YOUR ASS TO MY OFFICE NOW!!!" The Alpha growled through her mind link. She literally ran for her life to be at his office door as soon as possible to avoid being punished like they did often even for the smallest things. "You called Alpha?" she asks scared for her life. "Yes, as you should already know we are going to have visitors tomorrow morning, the Crystal Lake Pack will be our company for my sons´ Alpha ceremony", he stated matter-of-fact, as if it were common knowledge. She was dumbstruck to say the least, she hadn´t heard anything of the sort, no one had told her. But so she could remain unharmed she said, "Yes Alpha, what are my orders?" "You have to have the packhouse spotless, the guest bedrooms organized for they will be staying as well as they are also trying to find the mate to their son, the future Alpha of Crystal Lake." "Very well Alpha, how many guestrooms will I be preparing?" "4, the beta and gamma will also be attending." She wanted to bury herself under a rock and not come out until they were all gone because of how she had been rejected by the Gamma of that pack, but said "Consider it done Alpha." "Very well, now leave before I loose my temper, if i didnt need this done you wouldn´t be standing here, NOW LEAVE," he boomed. She scrambled out of his office, down the stairs and out the front door to go to her college classes, if she didn´t run she would be late and that would be worse for her after if the Alpha found out. Running through the hallways to get to class on time, she crashed into a warm wall that sent her and her books flying to the floor, she never lifted her eyes to the person who she crashed into but something made her wolf come slightly to the surface even if it was for a second. "OOOOUUUCH", she said as she started to get up and look around at her scattered books picking them up hastily. She murmured a quick "Sorry, excuse me", and bolted to her classroom never looking back at who she had bumped in to. Fate was making its first move, and it was something beautiful to witness if only for a second.
