A new Claire

1191 Words

Claira sat in the back seat of the cab, her head resting against the cold window. The city lights passed by in bright, blurry lines. Her thoughts were a mess, just like the roads they drove through. In her lap was a wrinkled stack of papers—the signed divorce papers, torn and stained with the tears she didn’t want anyone to see. Outside, life moved on. People laughed, cars honked, lights flashed. But inside her, everything felt still… and broken. She looked at her reflection in the glass. Tired eyes. Pale lips. A woman she didn’t recognize. A woman who once believed in love, in forever. Now… that forever was gone. She closed her eyes, trying to block out the memory......Lucas quietly signing the papers, not even looking at her. Maya had been there too, awkward and silent in the corner.
