Diana’s POV When I got home, Mum rose from the couch like a storm cloud gathering, eyes narrowing as she reached for my school bag. “Why aren’t you in uniform, pumpkin?” she asked, squinting like the soft pink fabric personally offended her. “Mum, it’s not a big deal,” I lied smoothly, stepping into the living room like it wasn’t on fire. “My uniform ripped in the gym. The teacher gave me something from lost and found.” She studied the dress like it might slither off me and confess its secrets. Her brow furrowed, but to my relief, she didn’t press. Not this time.
