Kael’s POV The forest was silent. Only the wind whispered between the trees. I stood over her, her fragile body sprawled across the ground, breathing, but barely. Every instinct in me screamed to finish what I started. Her long lashes trembled slightly, like her body still wanted to fight even though her consciousness had slipped away. So fragile. So human. I could kill her now. One move. One command to Zubby, the beast inside me. I had done worse for far less. “You’re too much of a distraction, Diana,” I whispered, my voice low and cold.
