By the time I opened my eyes, it was morning already.
I woke up to the thick blanket draped from my waist and the little pricks I could feel on my skin and sunlight pushing past the curtains. My body ached like I spent the night wrestling, but I felt my bones loosening a little too. The pain that owned me for so long has loosened its grip. Calie... I’m pretty sure that’s her name, and she moves around with a smile that doesn't feel like someone who has seen many dead bodies as she walks around.
“You’re being discharged today,” she said, writing something on a note without looking up at me.
“Both of you,” she continued.
