Chapter Thirty Seven: Submission

ELENA ☀️ Carlo was doing it again. Making me melt like butter in his arms only to pour cold water on me. “Would you come back?” Carlo asked, although his voice was pleading, he seemed to be forcing himself to beg me. I would have fallen for this act some months ago. Now, it wasn’t just about me. I had to think of my baby, no matter what. “Elena.” Carlo growled, his voice was low and full of warning. Clearly, he was starting to lose patience. “I won’t be going back with you. It would have been fine if you were my child’s father. But you aren’t.” I could feel the temperature of the room getting colder at my words. Yet, I squared my shoulders. “We are getting a divorce. That’s the only thing I’m going to talk about is when we will be meeting the lawyers.” “Don’t test my patience. The child is mine.” He declared and moved closer to me. I stood up abruptly. I knew exactly how my body reacted to him and I was going to let myself get distracted. “You loathe me. It’s only fair that I let you get rid of me.” I said with a shrug and had to resist myself from laughing at his darkened gaze. “Stop being so stubborn.” He said as he stood up and moved closer to me. I raised my chin up to match his gaze. I didn’t back down on this and I would even go as far as getting Daniel involved if he didn’t budge. “I would agree to a divorce,” he declared, and my heart churned with mixed feelings. Although, I felt disappointed and empty. I was still glad that I was going to get rid of him at the very least. “I will….” Before I could talk, Carlo cut in. “Only if you allow me to be at the delivery of your baby and if by any chance, the baby’s DNA has a match with mine, I get to keep the child fully. If you can sign that contract, then I’ll let you get a divorce and we meet in eight months from now.” I felt like he had poured cold water all over me. How can he want to lay claim to my child? My baby. Even though I hadn’t given birth, I was starting to see my child as an emotional support pillar. “I can’t sign that. Why would I put my child’s life on the line?” I argued. “You would know who exactly the father is. Since you have insisted that it isn’t me, then that contract should not be so difficult to sign.” His smirk was enough proof to know that he was certain my baby was a result of that night. “You are a devil!” I cursed hatefully as my shoulders sagged in defeat. “I’m guessing there’s no divorce on the table anymore.” He said as he guided me to sit on the couch and then sat beside me. I nodded my head, too angry and embarrassed to talk. “Just what I thought.” Without warning, Carlo led my head to his shoulders while drawing me into his embrace. “How do you feel now?” He asked softly and I couldn’t resist the urge to look up into his eyes. His eyes were shining with genuine concern like he really wanted to know how I felt. “I’m better. I just used some of my vitamins before you got back and Susan made me some soup that she claims would help me feel better and calmer.” “Hmmm, that’s good. Who’s Susan?” He asked, his hands roaming in my hair and even though I wanted to deceive myself that I didn’t feel anything for him again, it was so soothing that I felt I could sleep off. “She’s a cook I hired to help me with my meals.” “Ahh! So nice.” I moaned as he increased the pressure on my temples slightly. “Get a room!“ Lucio shouted from somewhere in the house, making me flush red while wondering where he was and what he was doing. Carlo guided my head to his lap while helping me stretch out on the couch. The way he was treating me felt surreal, but I not only didn’t want to break the spell, I wanted to let myself soak in the feeling without any fear. The feeling of being cherished and loved by the man I had fallen in love with. “When would you be moving back to the estate?” Carlo asked, disrupting my thoughts. I stiffened. Somehow, I love it better here. “It’s so large and it’s empty and since half the time you are gone, I think I’d rather stay here.” “I’ll be around more often now.” He promised. My heart was already too cautious. “I think I would still rather stay here. It’s more of my style and I have Susan here with me.” Carlo said nothing and we maintained a certain silence together, his hands still giving my upper body a massage. He had moved from my head to my neck and shoulders. Since Lucio’s tease, I had exercised restraint and didn’t allow myself to moan no matter how badly I wanted to. “You can bring her with you if you want to move back. You can also stay here till you have passed your trimester period.” He said after a while. He had most likely been thinking about it in those minutes and so I nodded. “I’ll move in with you.” He added, causing me to open my eyes wide. “You don’t have to…” “I want to and have to. This is going to be my first child. I don’t want to miss out on it.” He said resolutely, cutting off my argument. Just like most men out there, they cared very much about their seed and sometimes, nothing about the woman that was carrying the child. I didn’t say anything more as I allowed him to massage me while I relished the comfortable silence between us and his hot breath that fanned my face anytime he leaned in closer to me. Before long, I allowed myself to drift to dream land.
