Chapter Three: Play Dirty

954 Words
ELENA As soon as my mom left, I went ahead to stuff all the plates in the dishwasher. I hadn’t gotten enough food out of my emotions that had been embroiled in a roller coaster experience. I also wanted my personal space. I was only twenty four and I could already feel my six months old marriage looking like it’s a nightmare. After today’s lunch, it suddenly seemed like I didn't know who Carlo was anymore. “You would have to find an excuse for not wanting your honeymoon. I won’t take that burden off you.” Carlo said coldly his voice lacking any form of warmth, a stark difference from what it had been just a minute ago. “It’s not a burden I’ll like to drop. I’ll let my mother know about the honeymoon departure time for her so she can at least know we would be away.” If he wanted to play dirty, then I would play dirty too. “Since you acclaimed that this is something you can handle, then I’ll do well to leave all the planning to you. Dear husband.” I drew out the husband hoping that it set him off edge before I turned to leave. My thoughts are in a mess as I move around the living room trying to find something I could do to get my mind off things. Since I was not working today, I finally decided to go for a swim and maybe see a sitcom after. I used to be a sucker for romance movies but considering how messed up my emotions were, I didn’t doubt that it would only make me cry. Going back to my room to change and then going to the pool, the sight of the calm water somehow breaks all my resolve as I crumble to the floor, tears ran down my face as I hid my face in my hands a weak attempt to reducing the sound of my bawling and also hide my face from the world or any possible camera that could be here. To know that after these six months of hell, I still loved him. My heart and soul craved him. Craved to have his touch and maybe see the man I had fallen in love with one more time. I’m too deep in my thoughts that I don’t hear footsteps walk right to me until I’m yanked up by Carlo. His scent had always been distinctive. It was the type I could pick out in a large crowd. “What the hell did you do back there?” He asks coldly and I finally remove my hands from my face allowing me a clear view of his cold and chilling eyes. “What are you talking about?” I asked, my eyes blazing with anger. If there had been any delusions in my mind about what he would do seeing me all weak and vulnerable, it fades away right this moment. “You seem to have conveniently forgotten talking back to me just now. You want a honeymoon? You will get one just fine.” His eyes are cruel and mean. I have never seen my Carlo look like this. This wasn’t the man I married. I was very clear on that. “I don’t want a honeymoon with a monster like you. I wanted a honeymoon with my husband. The man I married and not this cold and cruel monster standing right in front of me Carl” I spat out as I pushed his built body right away from me. As I ran upstairs, I wanted to yell and scream out loud. Not having anyone to talk to was just as worse as it could get. This marriage, I want out of it. CARLO I watched as she ran upstairs, face tear stricken and eyes blazing with anger and fear. I was getting to her. I could feel it already. It was hard watching her crumble down and cry like that, she used to be the happiest. A princess shielded from the evils of this world by her father and mother while they went ahead to commit the evils. Despite my body’s reaction and my heart’s protest to her, I was not going to let her off just like that. Papa always taught me that every sin had its price and someone had to pay for it. Every time. A sharp vibration in my pocket pushed me out of my thoughts. “Yo man! I heard you were back in town” Mateo’s voice rang out from the other end of the call. My return had been a quiet one but my mother in law had a big mouth, it would only be a short while before all the people that needed to know knew that I was back in town. If she had any idea what her son in law was like, perhaps, she would be less reluctant to show me off. “I got back yesterday” “Want to come by to the spot for some drinks with the men? Or you want to have your fill of Elena.” He joked and I could imagine what their conversation had been about her before this call. With one of the most stunning faces in the world and a sinful body like hers, Elena had been on so many guys and mens lists among the socialite and outside the socialite circle. Mateo in particular had hoped I was only playing around with her so he could have his turn. Unfortunately for him, I have made sure that she would only be Mrs Mancini in this life. “I’ll be there. Send the location.”
