Debussy, Suite Bergamasque. Claudio Arrau, piano
Sail:
My vision blurred a little as Sam pulled into the front of the house. Everything hurts. My head feels like it has its own pulse. The spot where my head hit the ground feels like someone is trying to saw my skull open with a blunt blade. Exhaustion came over me and I wasn't able to keep my eyes open.
"No, no, no. Stay with me Sail," my brother urged.
The sound of my door being pulled open made me open my eyes. The cold air made me shiver. He pulled me out tossing my arm over his shoulders as he helped me inside. I was dragging my feet unable to stay steady. I wanted to stand up straight but I couldn't concentrate enough to command my body to do much.
"Sam," I heard someone call out. My brother set me down.
"Amanda slammed my sister on the floor," Sam bit out angrily. The other voice sighed.
"Sail," it said closer this time. "Come on, Sail look at me,"
"Jasper get me the O positive," Sam demanded. I opened my eyes to see Alekzander in front of me.
"What the hell are you doing here?" I asked groggily.
"Shut up," he smirked. I think I smiled at him. I lifted my hands up to my head as another sting hit. His hands came up to mine touching the wound on my head. A low growl came from the back of his throat.
"She doesn't have time for the blood packs, she's bleeding," he informed my brother.
"Then feed her, you ass," Sam demanded.
"Sail, is that okay with you?" he asked me. I opened my eyes to look at him.
I hadn't reached my full transition yet. Taking the blood of another male of my kind is usually reserved for blooded members of the coven unless it was completely necessary. Like now. Especially, if the underling holds status. Like I do.
"Yes," I whispered.
The low growl vibrated in his throat again. His mouth opened as his fangs slowly came down. He pierced his wrist and put it to my mouth. As an underling, I don't have fangs yet. Until I come of age it's my keeper's responsibility to feed their young and by that I mean my parents who I never see. Who have their personal assistant send blood packs and expensive gifts.
The blood doesn't taste very good. Alek says it's because I haven't transitioned yet. He had come of age last year since he's a year older than my brother and I. Two mouthfuls were all I needed to feel the pain subside. I pushed him away as I felt the strength of his blood course through me like fire. My pulse raced inside of me faster than it had ever before. I sat up groaning as the blood reached my heart and my head. I felt the vibration of a growl come up my throat. They both stepped away from me when I fell forward on all fours. This is why this wasn't always a good idea. My underling body isn't ready for his fully transitioned blood.
"f**k," was all I was able to make out.
"Good s**t huh?" Alek smirked. He knelt down to my right and my brother knelt down to my left. Alek pulled the scrunchy out of my hair and let my hair loose.
"It's gone," Sam informed us, parting my hair. "Does it hurt?"
"No," I answered feeling a little more awake now. Alek pressed his fingers to where I had hit my head. I flinched. "It's sore,"
"I can give you more," Alek suggested. "You still have bruises on your face and hands,"
"How am I going to explain that to the girl?" I asked sitting on the floor for now.
"You mean the mage?" Sam asked. I looked at him. He noticed it too. "I've never seen one of those before,"
"Me either. She smells really good," I tried to push myself up on my feet. Alek fought the urge to reach for me. He knows I'll push him away. They both laughed.
"A mage?" Alek asked.
"A new resident. She's Doctor Danvers' daughter," Sam explained.
"Doctor Danvers isn't a mage,"
"Which means the girl probably doesn't know what she is," I said. "So we treat her like a human. We don't want to let the dogs know what she is. The last thing we need is for Amanda to tell her dad real power just waltz in here,"
"Your appetite for dog is getting annoying," Sam growled, standing up.
He helped me to my feet when didn't push myself all the way up. I sat on the sofa unable to stand on my own. She could have killed me. Had the girl not done anything, the vampires would have retaliated. The pack dogs would have all been slaughtered. Alek and his family would have hunted them all down. Stupid b***h.
"When you transition and all there is to drink from is weak underfed school girls you'll understand why the wolves are a perfect choice. They taste better than humans do," he smiled. sitting next to me. "Do you feel better?"
"I left all my things at Maukas," I ignored his question.
"I'll call to see if they're still there," Sam shrugged, he got up leaving the room. Alek looked at me.
"Tell me to stop and I will," he bowed his head, making me smile.
"I'm not going to tell you anything," I scoffed, pushing him away.
"Why do you endure this?" he asked.
"Why must you make me endure it? I shouldn't have to say it out loud for you to know I don't like it. I can't give you what she does right now. When the time comes, I'll take what is mine and she'll be nothing but a blood w***e looking for her next fix," he reached for me at the same time his phone binged. He looked down and looked up at me with a guilty expression. "Go, I've taken enough from you tonight,"
"I offered," he shook his head, trying to make me feel better.
"I know. Now go and feed. It's not always going to be like this I promise," I cupped his face reassuringly. He nodded.
I watched him leave. It hurts to know what he was about to go do. It makes my blood boil. It was supposed to be easy. A year of this should have been nothing to me. I shouldn't have started to feel our bond this early in my transition. His mother said it could be because we had grown up together without knowing. Fated to spend eternity from the very beginning. Sam came over to me knowingly. He sat down next to me and sighed.
"I'd kill him if you didn't need him," he gave me one of his little side smiles. They don't work on me. He knows that. I smiled anyway, leaning my head on his shoulder.
"It's fine," I took a deep breath and slowly let it out. "What about my things?"
"The girl took them with her. She might bring them to you or wait until she sees you again," I nodded not really caring. "Mom knows,"
"So?" I shrugged. Of course, she does. My head was cracked on the cement today. They both probably felt the impact.
"She should be here in the morning. I think you should feed a little more. Let this take over his blood in you or you're not going to be able to sleep all night," he held out a blood pack for me to take. "You're going to need to take it slow until that heals completely,"
"Thanks," I yawned. He nodded. "Get some rest. Need some help getting to your room?"
"No, I'm okay," I waved him off. unscrewing the top of the pouch.
I put it to my lips to find that Jasper had warmed it up for me. Not that it helps in the slightest. It still tastes like metal. Sam walked out leaving me in the dim light of the living room. I thought back to the little girl who had come to my rescue. She didn't hesitate to try and help me. This wasn't my first run-in with the wolves. It happens constantly and more than any of us care to admit, but it is the first time anyone had tried to stop them from hurting me. She had held her own. They're taking advantage of the fact that I'm not able to snap them in half yet. I have to be more careful. Today could have gone much worse had the girl not been watching me.
Her golden blonde curls make me laugh. She's a striking small thing. There's fire in those blazing blue eyes of hers. I saw the way my brother looked at her or at least tried to not look. The other two aren't like her, which means one of two things. The twins are only her half brothers or she comes from a rare bloodline of Mage casters. The kind where only one child inherits the magic. Real power like that is rare and very well hidden. Why would her father let her go off on her own like that? Mages are very protective of their children. Especially women.
I got up and slowly made my way up to my room. On the center of my bed sat a pile of blue tulips. My favorite. I sat down picking them up. I pulled the ones he had left for me last week from the vase next to my bed and replaced them with these. My thoughts drifted to Amanda. She's probably with him right now. Enjoying the feel of him feeding off of her. b***h.
"My lady?" I looked back to see Lyveil slowly push my door open.
"Come in," I called. She pushed the door open to reveal a serving cart.
"I've brought you some tea, my lady. Some pain medication and a bit of food. An ice pack," I sat down on my bed giving her a nod. She came over to me handing me the two pills first and served me a glass of water.
"Thank you, Lyveil," I smiled at her.
"You took quite the spill. May I take a look," I turned away lowering my head. She parted my hair. A low growling sound came from the back of her throat. "Rabid mongrels,"
"Yeah," I agreed.
"Have some tea, my lady. Eat a bit and get some rest. You'll need it. Madam is coming in the morning,"
"So I've heard. We should have informed her that I am perfectly fine. I don't need her here,"
"It's not my place, my lady. I just wish you'd be a little more open to her. She doesn't know you for anything other than the trouble they see. She is your mother after all. You wish others would give you a chance. Perhaps you should start with giving others the same courtesy,"
"I'll take it into consideration," I sighed. She smiled at me standing up.
"I'll retrieve this later. Don't stay up too late," she walked out closing the door behind her.
I pulled the dinner cover off the plate. She had made me chicken nuggets and waffle fries. I poured myself a cup of tea and added two sugar cubes. I took a sip letting the warmth go through me. It took the metallic taste of the blood out of my mouth. I grabbed the ice pack and gently put it on the back of my head. I looked around for my book and remembered they had ruined it.
"Bitches," I sighed laying back.
I didn't want to go downstairs to get another book. I walked over to my record player picked up my favorite Claude Debussy vinyl. I counted the lines putting the needle down on my favorite song on here. I lowered it to a soft elevator tone and went back to bed. Laying down made me feel just how much my body was aching. I'm not getting out of this bed unless I really have to this weekend.
