Katherine's Fate

Chapter 12

I couldn’t help but notice that both Kate and Heather couldn’t take their eyes off of Kris. I looked at him and said telepathically, ‘Aren’t you the popular one?’ Kris looked at me and said back, ‘What do you mean?’ I just shook my head and said, ‘Look at the girls you moron. They are practically drooling over you.’ He got a stunned look on his face as he looked at them and realized I was right. He started to squirm under their gaze. He always has hated when the attention was focused on him, especially when it was women looking at him. I decided to take pity on him and said to everyone else, “Why don’t we go inside and see about our costumes?” Everyone looked at me and nodded their agreement. 

We stepped inside the Amati house and as our eyes adjusted to the dark interior we saw all manner of fabrics and smelled incense burning somewhere in the store. An older couple came up to us and said something in Japanese to Lin, who said something back and they continued the exchange for a few minutes until he turned around and said, “They said we could look around and let them know when we have our fabric picked out.” Kate looked at him and said, “I know what he said, I do speak Japanese too.” We all laughed at the exchange, but then Kris said, ‘She speaks Japanese?’ I nodded my head and said, “We should all look for the fabric we want to use on our costumes.”

An hour into looking at different fabrics I heard Kate say something in Japanese and the store owner came over to her. Apparently Kate and Heather had found their fabric and they went over to the fitting rooms to get measured. Kate looked over at me and gave me a radiant smile. The owner shut the curtain and I couldn’t see her anymore. Kris came over to me and said, “So she’s the one for you?” I looked at him and there was this look on his face, if I didn’t know him better I almost thought it was jealousy. I said, “Yes she is, and she is so much stronger than either of us could ever grasp.” He gave me a funny look and said, “What do you mean? What color is her aura?” I said, “Why don’t you see for yourself but I promise it will shock you more than anything ever could.” 

Kris laughed and muttered under his breath for a few seconds and when he opened them they had a faint glow within the blue. Heather’s curtain opened first and when it did he looked at her first. It was when they locked eyes that I noticed the change begin in him as it did in me a couple of months ago when I met Kate. When Kate opened her curtain I watched to see what his reaction would be, I wasn’t disappointed. It seemed like it took a huge effort for him to look away from Heather but when he did his jaw hit the floor and he tripped over his own words for a few seconds. I reached over and closed his mouth and said, “Remember she’s mine. What do you think?” It took him a minute to get his words together but he finally said, “I think we have a problem if her aura means what I think it does.” I could understand what he meant by that. 

There is a prophecy past down our line that says, ‘There will come a time when the dark will over shadow the light. This will be unavoidable unless the chosen one is found. It will be a female that will be hidden from the council and go through more pain and suffering than anyone will ever deserve, however she will wear a smile and never show the pain she has endured. She will have a rare ability but will not learn of it until late in life. She will be a life mate of someone in the MacRurii clan.’ From her aura and what I heard yesterday than I would say she fits the bill pretty well. She has certainly been through hell, but I doubt she gave me all the details. But that is something to talk about later.

Kris and I continue to look for another 5 minutes but then we find our fabric. We decide that we will dress as ninja princes and be their escorts. We haven’t told them that but we will, eventually. We walk over to where the owner is and tell him we are ready and he measures us and we all gather around to see when to pick them up and how much they will cost. Kate says something in Japanese to the owner and he says something back. When she reaches for her wallet he waves his hands for a few seconds as if to tell her no. She says something back then the owner says something and she looks over at Lin for a few seconds. She politely thanks the owner and begins to move towards the door. Everyone follows her and if that look was any indication she was about to lay into Lin. This should be fun to watch.
