I woke up to the sound of an unfamiliar alarm. As I fully woke up I remembered where I was, I was in Kate’s bed. She reached over and turned off the alarm, and then she stretched and looked at me. She got one of the biggest smiles I’ve ever seen her have. As I thought this I heard someone open the front door. I sat up straight and listened even harder. Kate said, “Alex, what is it? Is everything ok?” I motioned for her to stay quiet and that’s when I heard faint whispering in the front room, although I couldn’t make out what was being said. I got out of bed and went into the front room to see Ian and four of his friends whispering to each other. Ian is a good size guy by himself, but his friends were all bigger than him.
I heard a soft gasp behind me and Ian looked up to see who it was. I knew it was Kate I just didn’t know how she snuck up behind me. I hear everything, from footsteps to soft breaths. But I didn’t hear anything from her, how very interesting. As much as I wanted to figure out what was going on I didn’t dare take my eyes off Ian. Ian stood tall with his friends behind him and said, “I thought you would be gone, but I’m glad you’re still here.” As I opened my mouth to say something Kate put her hand on my chest, stepped in front of me and said, “It looks like you didn’t get the message last night, you are no longer a part of my life. I don’t want to see you. I don’t want to talk to you. I don’t even want to hear your name mentioned in my general direction ever again. So I’m going to say this one last time, leave your key on the table and get out.” Ian looked at her and said, “What will you do if I don’t?”
She got this look in her eye and said, “If you don’t leave within 10 seconds of me finishing my sentences, by the great goddess I will have no other option than to forcefully remove you. And if you don’t think I can then by all means step on up and try your hand. If any one of you want to try me then let’s see who’s still standing when the dust settles.” As she issued her challenge she stepped forward a half step and raised both arms. I leaned against the doorframe of her bedroom and just watched, ready to step in if it was needed.
Both of us knew that she was in no condition to fight, although she seemed to be moving better than last night. I wonder how bad her wounds are today. We all held our breath as we waited the 10 seconds and no one even moved a muscle. After 10 seconds went by she said, “Well I guess I have my answer. So who wants to play with me first?” She took another step forward and Ian said, “Since you want to step up I’ll let Marco take you on first.” Ian looked to his friend, who stepped forward. He was the smallest among the crowd here, but he was still pretty big compared to Kate’s size.
She looked up at him and said, “So you’ll be the first huh? Why are you even following this guy? You really want to take me on, a girl, just because he’s too much of a p***y to do it himself? That’s fine, let’s see what you got.” She lowered herself into a fighting stance that I knew very well. I didn’t realize that she knew Kempo. This should prove to be an interesting fight. Marco put both his hands up and got into a boxing stance. Upon seeing him in his stance I realized that he had no chance of winning if she uses Kempo. Marco swung with a right jab and she dodged under it and swept his legs out from under him. As he hit the ground she landed a good kick down on his ribs and an elbow to the face. He was not getting up after that. She kick flipped up off the floor, a move that should have been impossible with her injuries, and said, “I’ll give you guys one more chance to leave. Unless you want to end up like this guy you should leave.” They all looked down at Marco then looked at Ian. Boy did he look pissed off.
Seeing Ian so mad just hit my happy button inside and I couldn’t help but feel proud of Kate for standing up to him. Ian looked at the scared faces of his friends and said, “Fine then, if you guys are too scared to take her on, I guess I’ll just do it myself.” Ian rolled his shoulders as he stepped forward and Kate said, “I was hoping you would say that, I’ve been waiting for the opportunity for a little payback.” Her smile was dark and chilling; if this is how she was before she got back here then I can see why she would be feared and why Ian could never break her, despite his many efforts to do just that. Kate raised both fists in a kick boxer style as Ian got into the same style. Ian threw a couple of jabs and Kate dodged them. Kate said, “Let’s see if you can keep up.” Ian said with a malicious smile, “I could do circles around you before you ever landed one punch on me.” Kate chuckled and said, “We’ll see about that.” As she finished her sentence she threw a left hook and caught Ian on the jaw. He was so stunned by it that he didn’t see the crescent moon kick until it connected with his neck.
Ian hit the floor out cold and Kate looked at his remaining friends and said, “If you know what is good for you, you will not only take your friends out of here but one of you will get the key from Ian and bring it back here. Just put it in the mailbox.” She turned around as all of them nodded but she turned her head back around to say, “Oh and guys one more thing,” They all snapped their heads up to look at her, “Don’t come back here again with him. If he tries to drag you along I won’t hold back next time.” They all nodded in agreement as they picked up their friends and left. She looked at me and said, “That was more fun than I thought it would be, but it wasn’t even a warm up really. They always talk tough but couldn’t even handle a girl, bunch of wimps.” I laughed and said, “Well you’re not exactly a normal girl. And when did you learn Kempo? And nice crescent kick by the way.”
She seemed a little stunned by my response so I said, “My cousin and I spar together and have studied martial arts from around the world for years.” She nodded like that made some sort of sense to her or something. Then she smiled and said, “We should spar some time. I think that would be fun.” I was stunned but said, “Sure, I would enjoy that, I’m sure Kris would enjoy it to. He loves to spar far more than I do.” She giggled like a little nymph and threw herself at me in a hug. I caught her and held her tight. That was the time that Heather came through the door. Heather looked stunned for a second then smiled and said, “Well it would appear that everything is working out just fine. Kate how are your wounds?” I set her on the ground and she said, “I almost forgot I even had them. Let’s take a look.” Kate raised her shirt and took the bandages off. The only proof she was even hurt was the stitches still in her side and stomach. She and Heather looked stunned as Kate said, “What the f**k?” I couldn’t tell her that I was the reason she was no longer hurt. How do you tell someone that she came from a line of druids with mystical powers, that I am her soul mate, the only one in the world that can complete her and the mate bond between us was the reason she healed so quickly. She is just not ready for all of that.
