What the hell is going on? I know I had cuts last night, the stitches are still there. But I don’t feel any pain at all. The cuts are completely healed, there isn’t even a scar. How the hell did this happen? I looked up at the stunned face of Heather first; I could see the shock and horror on her face. Alex had a completely different look. He looked like he knew something and was struggling with the weight that secret put on him. I looked back at Heather and said, “Let’s get these stitches out since they are of no use now.” Heather shook her head and asked me to lie down on the couch. As she get the stitches out I kept looking at Alex to see what emotions would cross his face. Heather stood up and said she was done. I pulled my shirt down and looked at her.
She was also looking at Alex to see what he would say. I said, “Heather what are you doing here so early?” Heather looked at me and said, “I made an appointment at the Amati house for us to get our costumes. I came by the get you.” That makes sense but it’s still a little bit of a shock. I looked at Alex and said, “You know what happened to my cuts.” I made it a statement and not a question to leave no room for argument on his part. He looked at me with this haunted look and said, “Yes I do, and before you ask I don’t think now is the best time for me to say anything about it. I promise to tell you everything but before I do I want you to get to know me and I want to know you better. The reason this happened is a life changer and I want you to decide if you want to be with me or if you don’t before you find out. Does that make sense?” I didn’t like not knowing but I understood the importance of it. I said, “I’m ok with that, but when next I ask about it, you better not hold back. I will not be with someone who is keeping secrets from me, especially ones that are as life changing as you think this one is.”
Alex said, “I can understand and agree with that. In the future I promise not to keep things from you.” Heather looked between the two of us and said, “So we have to hurry and get ready if we are going to make it to Amati in time for our appointment.” I looked at her then to Alex and said, “Are you coming with us?” Alex gave me a wolfish grin and said, “Of course I am. After what happened last night and this morning I’m not leaving you alone, despite the fact that you can obviously take care of yourself.” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Here is this amazing guy that barely knows me and yet he doesn’t want to be without me, and he wants to protect me. Where has this wonderful man been my entire life? I blushed a little and said, “Very well, let’s get dressed.” We all walked into the bedroom and Alex said, “I’ll change in the bathroom, I’ll knock before I come out to make sure everyone is decent.” He grabbed his bag and went into the bathroom.
Heather looked at me and said, “Would you care to explain what happened last night after I left and this morning that would make that gorgeous hunk of a man not want to leave your side.” I laughed as I stepped into the closet and put on a pair of skinny jeans. I went to the dresser to grab a bra and went back to the closet to get me a shirt. As I finished getting dressed I explained what happened after she left and what happened this morning. She was laughing so hard by the time I was done, that I started laughing with her. There was a soft knock from the bathroom, we both said, “Your good, we’re decent.” We laughed even more because it would appear that once again I have surround sound when I’m with my best friend.
He walked out of the bathroom and we both got quiet. He was wearing faded denim jeans and a black button up shirt with the sleeves rolled halfway up his arm. He had pulled his hair into a low ponytail. He looked at both of us and said, “What was so funny out here?” Heather said, “She was telling me how you kicked Ian out last night and then how she kicked his ass this morning. I would’ve loved to have been here to see it.” We all let out another laugh but then Heather asked, “So which vehicle are we taking? Cause I know mine won’t fit everyone.” That was true, Heather drives a stingray convertible and it only fits two people. I’m not sure what Alex drives but I know my Expedition can fit everyone. I looked at Alex and said, “Out of curiosity what do you drive Alex? I haven’t had a chance to look outside and see.” Alex laughed and said, “Why don’t you see for yourself?”
