We stopped by the medical building and Heather grabbed some
blood bags, an I.V. tube, some suture kits, and some saline solution. While
she was grabbing the stuff she needed I sent Kris this text, “Hey won’t be
home tonight, Katherine needs me, Will text later to let you know what is
going on.” He sent back, “Ok let me know. See you when you do come
home.” As I put my phone away Heather came back outside with her bag in
hand and said, “Ok I’m ready to go.” It had been about 10 minutes since
she had gotten the text from Katherine. We needed to get to her very fast. I
saw Heather get into a corvette, that thing was probably just as fast as my
car. Thankfully I already knew where her house was since I drive past it
every day to and from the school.
Katherine's p.o.v.
5 minutes after Ian left I heard the front door followed by Heather’s
voice saying, “Kate honey, are you decent? I ran into a friend of yours and
he wanted to come see how you were doing after hearing you were hurt.” A
friend of mine, who is it? I yelled back, “Don’t let him in here. I kind of can’t
get up in order to get decent. Please tell me you brought something for the
pain.” I heard her say something then come into the bedroom and shut the
door. She looked at me and her face drained of all color. I said, “I guess it’s
worse than it feels huh?” She nodded and said, “Yeah doll, it is.
Unfortunately I’m going to need help with this, so I’m going to have to call
him in here. Let me grab something to make you more presentable to male
company.” As she walked towards the closet I said, “Who is here?” She
came out of the closet with two towels and helped me get them situated
around my private parts then said, “Alex MacRurii is here. He helped me in
the library and when I got your text he seemed very worried and wanted to
come along to give you moral support and protection.”
Alex was here, in my house. He was worried about me when he
heard I was hurt. I said, “Why was he worried? What is going on?” She
said, “I wouldn’t question it, for once just accept the help and don’t ask
about it.” I nodded and she opened the door and told him to come in here
and that she would need his help. He walked into my bedroom and looked
down at me laying there covered in blood and said, “Hello Katherine, what
can I do to help?” I looked at Heather and she said, “I’m going to need you
to help me keep her still. Antiseptics don’t work on her so she will feel
everything that I’m doing to her and she doesn’t always cooperate.” He
moved around the bed and sat down next to me on the bed and put his
hand on the center of my chest and across my hips. His hands caused a
fire to start in my soul and it felt good this time.
As Heather began working on me I just looked at Alex and he simply
looked back at me. While I was looking at him it was like nothing in the
world mattered except him. I felt no pain and didn’t feel a thing that Heather
was doing. Alex said, “So what happened to put you in this state?” I looked
down at the finished stitches and explained what happened. I watched his
smoke colored eyes turn dark grey and stormy with the words he was
hearing. I wanted to know what was going on in his head but was too afraid
to ask so I kept quiet. Heather said, “Hey Kate do you feel like getting up
long enough for me to clean you up in the bathroom?” I said, “Yeah I think
so but I’m not sure that I can actually stand up on my own.” Alex said, “I’ll
carry you into the bathroom if you would like. I promise to be very careful.” I
looked at Heather and she looked just as surprised as I did. How can I let
him do that? Most of the scars are covered by either blood or the towels.
What if he sees them or feels the ones on my back? How would he feel
about me then? The more I thought about it the more I wanted him to know
the truth and see if he still felt the same way.
I looked at him and said, “That would be fine, just as long as you be
careful of the stitches.” He smiled the most beautiful smile I’d ever seen
and said, “I promise to be careful of the stitches and nothing will show that
you don’t want to show. I’m a gentleman after all.” We all three smiled at
that, and he stood up then picked me up so gently that I didn’t even know
his hands were on me. I simply felt like I was floating. He carried me into
the bathroom and set me down in the tub so Heather could clean me up
and put bandages on me. As he left Heather came in and turned the water
on and got a washcloth out of the drawer.
Heather looked at me and said, “That is one very fine man and you
better jump on this opportunity in front of you or I will beat you myself.” We
both laughed and she began washing the dried blood off my stomach and
side. I said, “What happened that made you think you can trust him?” She
glanced at me and said, “He helped me print the fliers and he likes you a
lot.” He likes me? How can she know that? Does he know that I like him as
well? At my stunned expression she said, “Wait a second, you didn’t know
that? You know for a psych major you are kind of oblivious. He has
probably liked you for a while but hasn’t said anything because you more
than likely didn’t seem interested.” I suppose she was right, I found him
attractive from the very beginning. I was simply afraid of getting too close to
him because I wasn’t sure what I would do. I said, “I guess you’re right. But
Ian is gone and it’s time for me to stop holding myself back.”
Heather looked just as stunned as I felt as she said, “What do you
mean by that?” I looked at her and said, “Me and Ian are through, I told him
that if he went through with this that we were done and he could just get the
hell out of my house. He did what he wanted, and so he packed his stuff
and left about 5 mins before you got here.” I swear her jaw hit the floor. I
lightly pushed her jaw closed and she shook her head as she said, “I never
would’ve thought you had it in you to kick him out. But I’m super proud of
you. You deserve so much better than him. He is scum who deserves to
have his junk rot off.” We both laughed at this when she said, “Let me go
grab you some clothes.” I hadn’t even realized I was clean until she
mentioned that.
She came back in a few minutes later and said, “What are you going
to do about Alex?” I stood up, with a little help from Heather, and began to
dry off as I tried to think of something to say. What was I going to do about
Alex? Would he even want to help me? Why would he care about me or
what has happened? A million questions raced through my head as
Heather put the bandages on my stomach. I put on the tank and shorts she
brought to me. As I went to open the door one thought came to the front of
my mind. I didn’t want Alex to leave. I wanted to be with him, maybe from
the first moment I met him. Maybe that was why I had become so
argumentative with Ian the last few weeks. We had gotten into more and
more fights.
Alex went to leave but I grabbed his arm and asked him to stay. I
don’t know why I did it; all I knew was that I couldn’t let him walk out that
door. That was when I noticed something. Alex had this bright glow
surrounding him. It was mostly golden but had streaks of amber and cobalt.
It was truly amazing. I looked at Heather because surely she could see it
too, right? But it didn’t seem like she noticed it, that’s when I noticed she
had a similar glow around her. The biggest difference between the two of
them was that Heather had purple and more cobalt then Alex did. I had to
blink a couple of times in order to make sure I was actually seeing it. What
does this mean for me? Am I turning into some kind of freak? The look on
Alex’s face tells me that he knows something that he isn’t telling me. What
could it be?
