Joanne quickly turned her face away and sped off.
She didn’t know why Seraphina was here, but her gut instinct told her it couldn’t be anything good.
With a nervous heart, Joanne arrived at Grey’s Group. As soon as she parked her car, she received a w******p message from Ethan.
“Miss Wren, if you’re free tonight, I’d like to take you out for dinner. Do you prefer Chinese or Western food?”
Only then did she realize that she hadn’t replied to him.
After all, Ethan was a blind date introduced by Mrs. Grey, so Joanne couldn’t afford to be neglectful. “Either works for me, you decide.”
Ethan replied quickly, “I’ll pick a restaurant and let you know. What time do you get off work? I’ll come pick you up.”
Joanne rejected, “No need, just send me the location, and I’ll drive myself.”
If Ethan knew the real nature of her relationship with Zane, he definitely wouldn’t be this attentive.
Mrs. Grey wasn’t genuinely trying to set her up; she just wanted to humiliate her in this way.
Of course, if it could make Zane dislike her, that would be even better.
But no matter what, as long as she was still with Bos Group, she couldn’t refuse Mrs. Grey.
If she angered Mrs. Grey, the woman had a thousand ways to make her life miserable.
So, no matter how much Joanne didn’t want to go, she had to attend this blind date.
Joanne’s intuition was always spot on. As soon as she finished chatting with Ethan, Seraphina barged into the president’s office, marching straight to her and slapping her hard across the face.
It was obvious that Seraphina must have seen Zane’s car leave her apartment and figured out they had some sort of relationship. She came here to stand up for Quinn.
The colleagues in the office were stunned, and by the time they reacted, Joanne had already swiftly raised her hand and returned the slap.
No matter how rich or noble Seraphina thought she was, if she came up to Joanne and made a scene, she shouldn’t expect courtesy in return.
Seraphina probably didn’t expect Joanne to slap her back. Enraged, she shouted, “Who do you think you are, daring to hit me? Today, I’m going to teach you a lesson, so you’ll know your place and stop dreaming about climbing the ranks by sleeping your way to the top!”
Joanne’s face stung from the slap, but she still smiled and spoke firmly, “Miss Bennett, this is Bos Group, not a place where you can throw tantrums. I suggest you leave quickly before I call security.”
Seraphina shouted, “Don’t bully others just because you’ve got some backing! You’re just a damn secretary—do you really think you’re someone important?”
It was pointless trying to reason with someone like her.
Joanne retreated into the meeting room, locked the door, and then called Quinn, asking her to come take Seraphina away. Otherwise, she’d have to call security to escort her out.
Seraphina slammed the glass door of the meeting room, making a loud noise. If it weren’t for the colleagues from the CEO’s office stopping her, Joanne was sure she’d have torn the door off its hinges.
Soon, Quinn arrived in a hurry and, upon seeing the situation, immediately apologized to Joanne.
Unlike the unreasonable Seraphina, Quinn was the epitome of a refined young lady. She lowered herself and bowed deeply to Joanne in apology.
“Sorry, Miss Wren. My sister has gone too far. I’ll make sure to teach her a lesson when I get back. Everything that happened today was her fault. If you have any demands, please feel free to ask.”
Joanne replied, “It’s fine, I slapped her back. We’re even. Just take her away and keep an eye on her. Don’t let her cause any more trouble.”
Quinn was taken aback and quickly turned to look at Seraphina, who was still shouting. Sure enough, Seraphina’s face was red and swollen, looking much worse than Joanne’s.
A strange glint flashed in Quinn’s eyes but quickly disappeared. “Miss Wren, I promise this will never happen again.”
Joanne replied, “That’s good. There’s a meeting in the CEO’s office later. Thank you, Miss Bennett.”
This was a polite way of signaling her to leave. Quinn’s face darkened as she fixed her gaze on the woman in front of her.
Joanne had been slapped in public, her face was still marked with the bruise, her hair a little messy—but she remained composed, calm, and even took control of the situation, turning the tables.
Quinn knew very well that if this weren’t Bos Group, Seraphina would be in serious trouble today.
But Seraphina wasn’t backing down. Still shouting, she refused to leave. “You little s**t! Who do you think you are, kicking me out? My sister’s about to marry my brother-in-law, and I came to my brother-in-law’s company. Who dares to kick me out?”
“Shut up!” Quinn interrupted sharply. “Miss Wren is magnanimous and isn’t holding a grudge against you. Aren’t you ashamed enough? Get in the car and come home with me!”
Seraphina answered, “I’m not leaving! Sis, why are you helping this s**t? I told you last night that she’s got an improper relationship with my brother-in-law. This morning, I found out that my brother-in-law...”
“Seraphina!” Quinn said, each word sharp and deliberate. “If you still consider me your sister, then don’t say another word. Otherwise, I’ll pretend you don’t even exist as my sister!”
After speaking, she bowed to Joanne again, then turned and left without looking back.
Seraphina gritted her teeth, and after giving Joanne a fierce glare, she turned and chased after Quinn, leaving a crowd of stunned onlookers behind.
