The Office

LOCATION: LUPINE REALM

The Lupine Realm is slightly different to what you might assume it was created after the others, so far, we only know of three realms in total, the Ethereal Realm, the Humane Realm and the Lupine Realm. The Ethereal Realm is where all the Gods and Goddesses hail from, they are the ones that govern the universe to keep the peace, it is also home the eternal resting place, a place where all good creatures no matter the species rest for eternity once their time living is done. The Humane Realm was once home to all creatures, magic and normal alike however humans not being a divine creation but one of evolution had greed imbedded to their souls. The children where sometimes normal but as they grew it was evident that they were creatures capable of pure evil. They start wars for fun, destroy the planet with ease and hunt anything they think is different to them. There are some that are good people, but most have a hidden darkness. Eons ago the vampires and humans joined forces to erase every other species on the planet, vampires where not a divine creation either, they were essentially mutated humans, the exceptionally bad ones, murders, molesters and abusers that found out long ago if they drank human blood it corrupted their souls even more, it gave them superior strength and speed and in some cases the power of flight, the only reason they teamed up with other humans was in hope of corrupting them further and making more vampires or useful in another sense, for food.

The war between vampires and other magical creates raged for hundreds of years. finally, all the vampires were eradicated and the humans where spared. after the war, the Goddess’s favourite creations the wolves requested a new realm, for them and the other magical creatures to live away from the humans if they wanted, the wolves were worried by the fact that even though vampires had been eradicated all it takes is one corrupted human to destroy the world again, and next time they might not be so lucky. They no longer wanted to live in hiding or conflict, they wanted peace and freedom. Unable to refuse their request The Goddess enlisted the help of other gods and goddesses as well as the original elemental mages to create this new realm similar to the first but even more beautiful, she named it the Lupine Realm after the ones that requested it. The elemental mages grow bored often and wanted a new start, so they decided to stay in the lupine realm in order to keep peace and give blessings to this new world with the gifts they possess. The Lupine and Humane Realm occupy the same physical space but co-exist on different timelines, this is due to the goddess wanting a doorway between the two so that more have the option to cross over if they wish.

The Lupine Realm is separated into four quadrants, one for each season unlike the Human Realm that shares four seasons to a year. Each quadrant experiences one season all year around, it was made this way so that the many magical beings that draw power from nature can live in the season that provides them the most.

The north-west quadrant is the land of summer, it’s extreme heat, long days and short nights provide power to those that draw from the element of fire. The main continent in summer is home to the dragons that have the fire elementals blood flowing through them, they share the land with some reformed demons, keeping a close eye on them to ensure they do not cause trouble. The north-east quadrant with its warm seas and cool sunny days is the home of springtime, it shares its waters with two continents one is Siren Cove a beautiful island that is home to the mermaids and sirens, they draw energy from air not water as most would have though, they spend their days walking the shore and their nights swimming in the deep. The north east quadrant is a beautiful land surrounded by frozen ocean formed from the everlasting winter, it is the home of witches and wizards that draw from the energy of water. It is said by many that the original elementals live in this world still, Blaze the Fire Elemental is believed to reside in summer, River the Water Elemental apparently lives at the base of winter. Gust the Air Elemental has been sighted in Siren Cove at the tip of spring and Gaia the elemental of nature herself was once believed to live alone on an island at the border line of all the seasons, but no one can find an island there, so these are all probably just rumours as no one confesses to have seen them since the realm was formed.

In the south east corner of the world lies a land full of magic and power, its land surpasses the northern border so that half the land is spring and the other is autumn. There is an incredibly special pack with territory crosses the border, so they get to experience the benefits of both seasons in one. The dawn is fast approaching in Darkridge Pack, the sun is hovering just below the peak of the mountain range causing a slight orange glow that illuminates the many meadows and valleys. The cool air coming from the mountain makes the dew cover grass sway in the breeze and carries the faint hum of heartbeats long with it, the birds do not sing yet and everything remains quiet, all are still sleeping in their beds. Thankfully for two young werewolves the night is almost over, they lay fast asleep in their beds, their slumber far from peaceful, their skin covered in a thin coat of sweat, hair a mess from the relentless tossing and turning, when the morning comes neither will rested like they didn’t slept at all. Their joint decision to sleep apart was a bad one, no matter how close their rooms are and how strained their bond is, not being next to each other at night causes almost constant nightmares from the moment they close their eyes.  

ALEXANDER’S POV

The incessant ringing from my phone jolts me awake in a panic, I take a deep breath and sigh in relief, thankful for my alarm waking me from my restless and terror filled sleep. I look out the balcony doors towards the mountain range I can see the dawn is fast approaching however It is still fairly dark outside and for that I am thankful yet again everyone will still be asleep. The view from here is simply breathtaking, however it is time to get up and start my day, I let out a loud groan and climb out of the sheets, heading to the shower. The warm water from the showerhead cascades down my back and washes away the sweat coving my body from yet another night filled with nightmares. I get dressed in something simple, grey sweats and a black shirt, I don’t have any meetings till later today and I have no one to dress for anymore. After I get ready head to down the corridor towards the kitchen today feels like a cinnamon French toast today, no one else is awake yet but I don’t mind cooking for myself, the omegas do enough around here as it is.

My wolf being the pain that he is pulls me to her room, I know he doesn’t mean to torture me this way, he is attracted to her like a magnetic force clouds his mind, drawing him to her. Standing at her door with my hand hovering over the handle I know I really should leave her be and go back to the kitchen, but I can’t help myself I move quickly before I can gather my thoughts and change my mind, I enter her room praying for her to stay asleep so that I can set my eyes on her beauty for just little while before she wakes up for the day.

 I open the door as slowly as I can and it barely makes a sound, I tiptoe across her room slowly ensuring to not make any loud sounds. My breathing stills, her beauty is unrivalled, she is truly the most gorgeous creature on the planet. The covers are flung off onto the floor leaving me to relish on all of her godly beauty, her slender golden legs that I want wrapped around me, her night dress has been hitched up by all of her tossing and turning, it takes all of my self-control to compose myself when I see the silvery G-string that barely covers her modesty, I want nothing more than to be buried deep inside her. Goddess, give me strength, I want nothing more than to rip it off her and take her right this minute. Her arms are clinging tightly to her pillow and her long golden waves covering her face. I approach her bedside as quietly as possible. I live for moments like this recently, admiring her from a far. I gently I brush the hair from her face. As if I suddenly forgot how to breathe, my heart skips a beat and I stare, completely transfixed by her beauty, she has a delectably confused expression across her face, her eyebrows are furrowed, and her beautiful lips are forming an undelightful frown. I lean down and kiss her forehead and say my goodbyes for the day hoping I do not wake her. At this early hour I wouldn’t want to start up another fight between us, as I pull away her little face turns peaceful.

Turning my back to exit the room, something causes me to turn back around, the moment I do she reaches her soft hands up to my face and begins to stroke my cheek, her eyes are closed so I assume it’s just a reflex, it is going to take everything I have to leave this room while she is like this. Then I hear it, the most beautiful voice in the world, it is impossible to put it into words, her voice is soft like the petals of a rose and as gentle as the calm breeze that gently sways the grass when it moves through the meadow.

“Lex, please stay.” My chest grows warm, but she senses my hesitation. “Please just for a little while.” Her gentle voice is calm and reassuring.

“My love, you know I cannot stay, I can’t make this worse” I try and fail to keep my voice light, the truth is it kills me every time I walk away.

“Please I need you.”

That one sentence breaks me, it is enough to make me throw every doubt and caution to the wind. I lay down placing myself behind her gently pulling her back into my chest. We lay there for a short while happily embraced by each other, from the outside looking in on this situation you wouldn’t see that I would be in any hurry to leave but our fights as of late are gaining frequency and ferocity. The more we fight the more our bond fades. She rolls over and looks at me with the pools of liquid gold that her beautiful eyes.

“How about we get breakfast just the two of us?”

“Anything for you my queen, go get dressed I will wait in my room for you.”

I release my arms from her waist and allow her to exit the bed towards her shower, I don’t want to overstep by staying in here during her shower so I slowly trudge towards my suite and lay down on the couch, my mind is swimming I am unsure about her sudden change in attitude, I welcome it hoping that this morning will be a nice break from everything that’s been going on. And might be the first step in repairing some of the damage done by our resent fighting. My queen hasn’t been gone long, maybe about twenty minutes when I hear her soft footsteps approaching my door, she walks into my bedroom and the world stops, she looks radiant, her long wavy hair looks like sunshine and her eyes have gone from a bright gold to a warm ember and her skin is glowing. The urge to take her to bed grows when I notice she is wearing one of my grey shirts and skimpy black cotton shorts. Even in the most basic clothes she looks as gorgeous, I long to see her completely bare, I want to tell her I love her with everything I have, but I can’t and that displeases me.

Ready to go?” She looks at my disgruntled expression and greets it with her own confused one. “Is what I’m wearing not okay?

“No, what your wearing is fine,” I want to tell her how beautiful she looks but I don’t.

We walk together side by side to the dining room and eat breakfast together. We sit in silence for a while before she speaks up again.

“So, what are your plans for today?” Her mind is somewhere else, and she isn’t looking directly at me, what is up with her today.

“I have a lot of paperwork in my office and this afternoon I have a few meetings. Why is that?” I wonder if she will tell me the truth, I try to make eye contact, but she is still avoiding it, a true sign of nervousness or dishonesty.

“I was going to visit my parents today and wanted to bring you but you are busy with work stuff so I might visit on my own” rage consumes me, I push it aside and hide it deep within myself, I’ve gotten good at that lately and she doesn’t notice the difference.

“You have been visiting them a lot lately, and I haven’t seen them in a while so maybe I should come with you.” Let’s see you get out of that one, I know exactly where you are planning to go, and it is certainly not to our parent’s house.

“It’s okay, you have meetings today, I will go for a short visit today and we can visit on the weekend together” her eyes now meet mine with a desperate sort of confidence, she is hiding her lies well, but I know her better than anyone. My rage is growing and getting hard to suppress, I know she isn’t visiting her parents, I just want her to admit it.

“I can move my meetings, I would love to spend the day with you and your parents,” I must confess that really is the absolute truth, her eyes fill with panic now, I continue. “That is unless you aren’t seeing your parents, meeting with Dylan perhaps?” I get straight to the point I am sick and tired of beating around the bush and maybe now she will be honest.

“Fine!” she shouts, but quickly changes her tune to try and cover her lies “If you really want to come, I’ll come grab you before I go” I scoff internally, I doubt you will, but we will see.

“Okay sounds great, I better go get started on my paperwork. I will see you soon.”

I don’t even wait for her response and walk into my office to complete some of the mountain of outstanding paperwork that has been left on my desk.

Everything is eerily quiet, and I have an unnerving feeling washing over me, I haven’t seen my darling dishonest wife in a couple of hours since I abruptly finished our breakfast together. I sent out a link to everyone that I was not to be disturbed by them, the only person coming to see me today was my mate. She hasn’t come to get me to go to her parents’ house yet, and I don’t expect she will. I have a headache and we normally don’t get them, and I don’t understand why I have one all of a sudden, but I cannot deny that my head is pounding, and my entire body feels weak, somehow, I know this pain is not my own, but I ignore it, the end of my work is quickly approaching I am down to my last few documents to sign and my afternoon of meetings lie just ahead. I didn’t bother cancelling, I know she won’t come and get me. I let out a loud groan the pounding in my head has gotten worse and it feels like it is going to explode. I hear thundering footsteps running down the hall and it is only making the pain worse. What could it possibly be now?

“Alpha! Alpha!” I hear a hoard of guards screaming my name as they rush to my office. I fling the door open just in time for them to reach it.

“You best have to have a good reason for coming. My head is killing me, and I REQUESTED NO DISTRACTIONS!” I shout at them and instantly feel bad for losing my temper, these men are some of my best warriors. Some of them are in the next generation of head guards, but they don’t know that yet. The guard leading them is Mason, he’s pretty tall, not as tall as me and he is strong and fit, but something must be wrong because he seems out of breath.

“It’s…Aurora…She…She’s.” He is trying frantically to get the words out, but I am getting extremely impatient.

“SPIT IT OUT! Come on mason” the young guard looks shocked that I even know his name but recovers.

“She’s been rushed to the pack hospital.” And my mind goes blank. Just like that all coherent thoughts leave me, and I am left a babbling mess.

“wait, what?” I question, my voice is nothing but a whisper, I hold back the tears wanting to fall while my heart constricts with concern for my poor mate.

“She was found at the river crossing right after the tunnel” Mason is trying to explain as delicately as he can. My concern flies right out the window and is replaced by rage, that little b***h I knew she was lying! Going to her parents, pfft. please that’s always her lie for when she goes to see him.

“That’s the entry to DYLANS PACK!” My voice shakes the hallway, “You better be sure about this Mason, I warn you, you better not be lying about my mate’s whereabouts!” I find it quite hard to control my shouting because I can’t contain my rage.

“Yes, it was Dylan’s pack lands entry.” His voice is low, and he honestly looks sorry for me.

“Wait, why is she at the hospital then?” I really don’t understand what is going on, if she was leaving the grounds, it doesn’t make sense that she is back in the hospital, something suddenly doesn’t sit right with me, the pain I was feeling before was hers.

“She was beaten quite badly, we have no idea who, someone brought her to the hospital as soon as they found her, they us after they got her to the hospital. We questioned him and he said heading to Dylan’s pack lands to visit his parents. He rushed her right there.” Mason speeds through all of the information not pausing on any details.

I can’t help but notice their information is lacking details and it is all very general, that is probably because they rushed right here. Mason continues on when he sees me nod my head, I don’t say anything yet because honestly, I have no words right now.

“They have put her in the ICU, she was found in a comatose state and we are sorry to say, they don’t think she will wake up for some time.”

At this moment I am filled with so many emotions I can’t figure out how to react, as an alpha, a mate or as a stranger. I decide to do what is best for me, so I compartmentalise, I push my anger at my mate and the concern for my mate to the back of my mind. I will act like an Alpha, make decisions based on evidence and not let my judgment be clouded by emotion.

“I’m going to go get ready so I can visit the hospital and the person that brought her, please get one of the female omegas to pack a bag for her with everything she might need for an extended stay.” I tell Mason what to do next and he decides to tell me some much-needed information that he was clearly keeping from me.

“Alpha that won’t be necessary.” His eyes hold an emotion I am not used to. Pity.

“Why?” I asked confused.

“She had quite a large suitcase with her when she was found.”

My heart shatters, she was leaving me, without telling me. Everything from this morning that I thought was the steps to reforge our bond was just a cover, so she would know where I was when she broke it.

“Get someone to the hospital. NOW!” All the rage I have been suppressing for months comes straight to the surface as I bark orders at my guards. “Handcuff her to that hospital bed. She does not step foot out of that room without someone telling me. She is under arrest, the moment she wakes up you will take her to the dungeon with the other traitors. She will not leave me. IS THAT UNDERSTOOD?” the last words come out in a loud roar that echoes through the pack house, I could not care less at this point, I am seething I could kill anyone, everyone, especially the so called “Alpha” Dylan.

“Yes Alpha” the twenty or so guards salute me before heading to the hospital. I am left alone in my office. I need to calm down before I go to the hospital if I get there before I calm down who knows what I will do when I see her. I go to mind link my beta but quickly realise how bad of an idea that is as that he is my brother-in-law.  Decided to see if my gamma as returned home from her travels yet.

          Alexander: Nyx, are you back yet?

          Nicole: Yeah, I got back this morning, I just heard I am on my way to our office, are you okay?

          Alexander: Meet me at the gym.

          Nicole: But –

          Alexander: Nyx, NOW!

          Nicole: Alright whatever you say BOSS.

I am sure she felt my anger through the link, and I can sense hers just by the way she said boss at the end, she does that sometimes, mainly when she is mad at me for treating her like a leader rather than a friend. What she doesn’t realise this time is that I don’t have it in me to treat her like a friend. I’m sure she will thank me soon enough for turning off my emotions, so she doesn’t become my personal punching bag in training for the afternoon.
