His Last Choice CHAPTER 5 Leon's group pressed onward, soon reaching his mother's homeland, Puerto Biringan. This is where the Jade Pack is, led by his uncle, Alpha Emer, Eulanda's younger brother. Knowing of their impending arrival, the Jadeans eagerly awaited them. As they arrived, Alpha Emer greeted them with genuine warmth. “I know your journey has been long and exhausting, so I ensured your mother’s villa was prepared for your stay,” he said, the old man’s voice filled with compassion. “Thank you so much, Uncle,” Leon replied, his tone respectful as he acknowledged the familiar yet aged figure, who mirrored his mother’s features. A faint smile crossed Alpha Emer’s face as he placed a reassuring hand on Leon's shoulder. “I understand why your mother decided to send you here. It has been so long since Eulanda left the Jade Pack. I always wished to visit her, but my responsibilities here have kept me anchored.” He could see a deep longing in his uncle's eyes as he spoke of his only sibling. “Mom often shares stories about you,” Leon said. “Rest assured, she is in good health and free from burdens. My father has assured me of that,” he added, attempting to lighten the sadness that shadowed his uncle's expression. Meanwhile, Hailey stays quietly, absorbing the depth of Leon's character. She noted, “It’s remarkable how effortlessly he empathizes with others.” The older man smiled at Leon and said, "I remember meeting your father once. Though our acquaintance was brief, I can confidently say he was a remarkable Alpha." Both men nodded in agreement, acknowledging the truth in his uncle's words about Leon's father. "And who is—" "She is my Luna," Leon interjected, gesturing proudly to Hailey, who stood beside him. Hailey quickly sensed the bitterness in his expression before she had the chance to greet him. Just as she started to ponder the older man's reaction, a loud, exuberant voice cut through the moment—"LEON!" They both turned to the source of the voice, and Hailey's heart skipped a beat when she saw her sister Celina's radiant face, rushing toward them with uncontainable joy. A shock coursed through Hailey as she watched Celina throw her arms around the man beside her. "I’ve missed you so much!" "Why did it take you so long to get here?" Celina exclaimed, her enthusiasm overflowing as she embraced Leon, oblivious to everything else around them. At that moment, Hailey stood frozen, unable to process the scene unfolding just a couple of steps away. Her lips parted in disbelief, and her eyes widened, locked on the unexpected reunion before her. "Ahem!" With a theatrical cough, Leon's old uncle turned his attention to Hailey, his expression warm. "Well-hi there, how was your trip?" You must have been very exhausted. "Allow me to show you to your room," he offered to Hailey, a kind smile lighting up his face. Just as Hailey opened her mouth to accept his invitation, Celina interjected with vibrant energy. "Let me take her to her room, uncle," Celina said. Leon’s uncle hesitated, but Celina insisted. Without waiting for a response, she clasped her arms to Hailey's and confidently led her away. "I thought that Celina was your Luna, which is why I allowed her to stay in your mother's room," Leon's uncle remarked with a deep, contemplative tone, watching the two women disappear into the hallway. Leon let out a heavy sigh, fully aware that although it might not seem right to others, he had no choice but to accept Celina's arrival. After all, it was part of the agreement they made to allow him to marry Hailey. As the sisters, Celina and Hailey, entered the room, Celina instantly leaped onto the bed, radiating energy. Hailey, on the other hand, felt a whirlwind of confusion swirling in her mind. She was grappling with the surprise of their reunion, while the scene unfolding before her only added to her disarray. At that moment, it became clear that Hailey was the only one wrestling with uncertainty, as Celina's infectious smile lit up the room. Sitting on the bed, her joy was palpable, a stark contrast to the tension that seemed to envelop Hailey. She entertained herself by surveying the room, taking in its grandeur. Despite its age, it was clear that the current alpha had meticulously maintained this home. The opulent furnishings were exactly what he expected; the Jade pack was renowned for its wealth, with exquisite diamonds sourced from their land, a testament to the status of its members. Leon's mother, though known for her modesty, was often draped in lavish clothing, adorned with sparkling jewelry, and steeped in rich traditions. Leon, too, embodied this legacy; it was undeniable that he hailed from a lineage of luxury, elegantly dressed from head to toe, reflecting the affluence that surrounded him. Hailey admired the room in silence until her older sister, Celina, who had been observing her, broke the quiet. "How are you?" Celina asked, a sweet smile lingering at the corners of her lips. Hailey turned to face her sister, studying her expression for a moment before answering. "I'm fine. "Although our journey was tiring, thank God we arrived here safely," Hailey replied. At that moment, Celina stood up from the bed and approached her, closing the distance between them. Hailey felt a strange intensity in her sister's gaze, though she couldn't quite put it into words. Celina remained silent, her focus entirely on Hailey, as if she were closely examining her sister’s face. This behavior was unusual for Hailey, as they were not particularly intimate as sisters. It seemed Celina was searching for something on Hailey's neck, prompting Hailey to step back a bit in response. Celina was looking for a mark. Perhaps she wanted to make sure that Leon wasn't interested in her sister, even though Leon had already married her in front of the entire pack. And when she confirmed that Hailey had no mark, a sharp grin immediately appeared at the corner of her lips. For her, it was proof that she still owns Leon. But her secret smile quickly vanished when Hailey spoke. "Why are you here anyway?" Celina stepped back, locking eyes with her sister, startled by the unexpected question. "Why, don’t you want me here?" Celina's response was met with a frown, her tone taking on a serious edge. Fearing she might upset her older sister, Hailey rushed to her side, taking Celina's hands into hers. It's not that at all. I—I just wasn’t prepared to see you here. "But truly, I’m so glad you're here," Hailey insisted, though deep down, she struggled to believe her own words. Celina's next move sent her heart racing with a mix of confusion and urgency. Her sister yanked her hands away, her brow tightly furrowed in distress. "No! You can't be amused by this, Hailey. Are you really that weak-minded, or are you just pretending not to see what's going on?" Hailey averted her gaze, fully aware of her sister's meaning. "What are you talking about?" she replied, putting on an act of ignorance. Celina let out a strained laugh, sizing up her sister for a brief moment before striding toward the large window. From there, she watched Leon outside, meticulously unloading luggage from the wagon. "That man is mine," she declared with undeniable conviction, her eyes fixed on him. Hailey may not have been able to see who it was, but she knew exactly whom Celina was referring to. Hailey understood this and believed her when she said that she had no intention of claiming part of what they had shared. Yet, a bitter pang gripped her heart as she listened to Celina assert her ownership over Leon.
