A smack echoed through the grand hallway and Scarlett’s body was thrown backward, tumbling down the staircase.
She fell hard and landed with a loud thud. It hurt her ribs, and she instinctively put her hand on her stomach.
Her face was swollen and bruised, yet she managed to lift her gaze just enough to see Sebastian storming down the stairs, his fists clenched.
“P-please… Sebastian… don’t hurt me…” Her voice came out as a whimper, her hand raised as a weak shield against him. But His body jerked slightly, as if some inner force pulled his muscles beyond his control. His eyes blinked rapidly, out of control.
The sight made Scarlett’s stomach twist. She knew this look all too well; the look that warned he was slipping deeper into his episodes, further beyond reason.
