14 Chapter 14: Murphy’s Law Xia stood atop the castle terrace mournfully watching the festive city below. The walk back was like a dream, as if her steps carried no weight. The constant sounds of cheers and shouts only worsened her sorrow. The joyous celebration reminded her of her mother. She thought of her Ileanna’s smile and chuckled at the thought of her cheerful presence. Xia heard footsteps behind her. Another presence, one just as warm as her mother’s, widened her smile. “You okay?” Dorian asked. “Yes. I’ll be fine. I just need some time to be alone right now.” Dorian wrapped his arms around her and rested his head on her shoulder. “Don’t do that. Don’t shut me out. Use me,” he implored. Xia placed her hand on top of his and smiled. “You’re so damn stubborn,” she whispered.
