The room was quiet and time seemed to stand still. Five minutes had passed since Aries left the room to attend to an urgent issue. Reina lifted her back from the bedpost she had been resting on as she tried to make sense of what had happened.
A great surge of shame washed over her and instinctively, she dragged the bedsheet over her unclad body, raising her legs so her knees were right beneath her face.
“What have I done? Did I just give my body to a stranger for no reason?” Her head was on fire and her mind quickly trailed to the event of last night, the attack from a large wolf still made her body shudder with fear.
She made a mental calculation to find her clothes and found them littered on the rug-covered floor. She winced in shame and looked away. “I have to leave before he gets back here. Mother will be looking for me.” She bit her lips at the last statement, worried that Serene would be unable to understand what happened last night and might decide to punish her.
She got out of bed and quickly put on her dress. There were blood stains on it and her heart raced a little and stopped, returning to its natural beat. She noticed the room for the first time as the first ray of sun seeped through the large window, illuminating the room. “Wow, it's beautiful in here.” She was tempted to take a tour of the room but she stopped herself, thinking of how to leave the house without getting caught.
The door opened with a creak making her stop in her tracks. She peeked through the small hole and opened the door wider enough for her to leave. She took the long stairs down and with each step she took the house only grew bigger and beautiful.
Reina managed to leave the main gate of the house but as she tried to go outside, she found herself in a large compound…no, a mini estate. There were hoses around all very pleasing to the eye. “What is this place?” She muttered in shock and awe.
“I still have to leave; I have to find my way out. There has to be a main gate that leads outside.” She smiled inwardly as she found an enormous gate with tall fences and barbed wires obviously for intruders. She was no intruder and she prayed the gate was open.
She tiptoed on the well-polished marble floor; her senses were alert and kept glancing around to see if anyone had spotted her. “I just have to get to that gate without anyone seeing me.”
She got closer to the gate and was only a few steps away from freedom when she heard voices coming from one of the buildings. She stopped walking and placed her back on the wall, hoping to understand what was going on. She strained her ears but all she got were heated voices. “A quarrel?” She tiptoed till she saw a group of people standing around a young woman.
Reina couldn’t make out what she looked like but she had very long dark hair that clung to her face. She was crying and begging someone. A man.
“Aries?” Her hand flew to her mouth as she said his name. Surprised at the sight she had seen and even more surprised at what she felt deep inside her. Jealousy.
“What the hell? Who is that?” She whispered. She had the strong urge to leave the place so she took advantage of the distraction and walked passed them straight to the gate. She pushed it and it opened freely. Heaving a sigh of relief, Reina walked outside and without another glance at the gorgeous estate, she ran.
“What do you mean you can't find her anywhere? I left a woman in my house and you stand there to tell me you have no idea where she is?” Aries barked at his two watchmen. He had returned to his room only to find Reina missing.
“We are sorry, Alpha. I can go after her and find her.” One of the men said with his head bowed. Aries was angry but he knew he had to be calm in a situation like this, especially in front of his packmates. He was Alpha for a reason and he had to show it. Emotions like anger were not allowed because it is viewed as weak and he did not want anyone to think he was weak.
“Get me Damon now.” He instructed the watchmen in a low steady tone, masking his anger perfectly. They both hurried out to do as he had asked. Damon was his most trusted packmate and second in command after him. He needed to find Reina and his wolf was uneasy because of her absence.
He sniffs the air drawing her distinct scent through his nostrils and the image of her body entangled with his clouded his mind briefly. He shook his head and snapped out of it.
“You asked for my presence, Alpha,” Damon said, announcing his arrival with his low deep voice that could scare anyone. Anyone except Aries and the packmates who are used to hearing him speak.
“Yes. She is missing and we need to find her.” Aries stated calmly and Damon nodded, instantly knowing who they were going to find.
Reina sat on the floor of the living room bleeding from her nose, and Serene stood above her staring menacingly at her with a baton in her hand. “I see you are not only stupid but loose. Where were you last night, Reina? Answer me or you will meet your dead mother!” She said in a deadly tone that told Reina she meant everything she said.
“Do not talk about her like that!” Reina wailed shaking her head in agony. “I was attacked in the forest; I still brought the woods back.” She stated as she pointed at the pile of wood she returned with.
Serene went ballistic on Reina as she hit her with the bat repeatedly. “You think you have a say now huh? You’ve grown wings overnight, but I. Will. Clip. Them. Off!” The bat landed on her body with no mercy and she cried and begged for mercy.
There was a loud banging on the door. Serene stooped and listened, wondering who was knocking at her house since they just moved in. She eyed Reina suspiciously and took a step backward. Jeremey walked into the living and gave Reina a sad look then turned to Serene.
“You have visitors, ma'am.”
