Seeking Wisdom

The first semester examinations were only a few weeks away, and the atmosphere on campus had changed completely.

The cafeteria was quieter than usual, the library remained full from morning until night, and students walked around with textbooks tucked under their arms.

Despite the pressure of exams, Ethan and Sophia continued to encourage one another.

Every evening after lectures, they met in the library to revise their notes before heading back to their hostels.

One afternoon, after leaving the library, Ethan's phone rang.

The caller ID displayed one word.

Mum.

A smile spread across his face as he answered.

"Good evening, Mum."

"My son!" Mama Bisi replied cheerfully. "How are your studies?"

"They're going well."

"And are you eating properly?"

Ethan laughed.

"You ask me that every time."

"Because I know you."

"If nobody reminds you, you'll survive on snacks and coffee."

They both laughed.

After talking for a while about school and family, Mama Bisi noticed a slight hesitation in Ethan's voice.

"Is something bothering you?"

Ethan was silent for a few seconds.

"There is someone I'd like you to know about."

Mama Bisi smiled, even though he couldn't see her.

"Oh?"

"Tell me about her."

Ethan chuckled.

"Her name is Sophia Daniels."

"She's my course mate."

"We study together."

"She's intelligent, respectful, hardworking, and she loves God."

Mama Bisi listened quietly.

When Ethan finished speaking, she asked gently,

"And how do you feel about her?"

Ethan took a deep breath.

"I think..."

"I think I'm beginning to love her."

There was a brief silence.

Then Mama Bisi spoke with warmth and wisdom.

"My son, there is nothing wrong with loving someone."

"But remember this—true love is built on friendship, respect, patience, and God's guidance."

"Don't rush because of your emotions."

"Take time to know her heart."

"Pray about it."

"If she is the woman God has prepared for you, everything will happen in His perfect time."

Ethan smiled.

"Thank you, Mum."

I needed to hear that."

After ending the call, Ethan sat quietly beneath a tree on campus.

He looked up at the evening sky and whispered a simple prayer.

"Lord, if Sophia is part of my future, help me treat her with honor and wisdom."

"Don't let my feelings become a distraction from the purpose You've given us."

"Guide my steps."

A deep sense of peace filled his heart.

The next day, Ethan met Sophia outside the lecture hall.

She smiled brightly.

"Good morning."

"Morning."

"You look unusually happy."

"I had a good conversation with my mum yesterday."

Sophia smiled.

"Mothers always know how to make things better."

"They do."

As they walked toward class, Ethan looked at Sophia for a moment.

He silently thanked God for bringing her into his life.

He still hadn't told her how he felt.

There would be a right time for that.

For now, he was content to keep building a friendship founded on trust, kindness, and respect.

Because he believed that anything worth having was worth waiting for.
