The New Beginning

The morning sun rose slowly over the city, painting the sky with streaks of gold and soft orange. It was the first day of a new academic session at Crown Heights University, one of the country's most respected institutions. Students from different states arrived with suitcases, backpacks, and dreams bigger than themselves. Some walked confidently through the gates as if they had waited their whole lives for this moment, while others looked around nervously, wondering what the future held.

Among them was Sophia Daniels.

She stepped out of her father's car and paused for a moment, taking in the sight before her. The large university gate stood proudly, welcoming thousands of young men and women who had come to shape their futures. Around her, parents hugged their children, gave last-minute advice, and whispered prayers before driving away.

Sophia smiled to herself.

"This is where my future begins," she whispered.

Chief Daniels closed the boot of the car after helping the driver unload her luggage.

"So," he said with a warm smile, "our little girl is finally in the university."

Mrs. Daniels laughed softly.She stopped being little a long time ago."

Sophia rolled her eyes playfully.

"Mum, Dad, please don't embarrass me on my first day."

The three of them laughed.

Although Chief Daniels was one of the country's most successful businessmen, he had never allowed wealth to define his family. He believed that character was worth more than money, and he had raised Sophia with humility, discipline, and faith.

He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.

"Sophia."

"Yes, Dad?"

"You're here to study, to grow, and to become the woman God created you to be. Never allow pride or bad company to lead you away from your purpose."

"I won't."

Mrs. Daniels stepped forward and adjusted Sophia's blouse.

"And remember to eat properly. Don't skip meals because of assignments."

Sophia smiled.

"I promise."

The family joined hands.

Right there in the middle of the busy campus, they bowed their heads as Chief Daniels prayed.

"Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing Sophia this far. Guide her steps. Protect her from harm. Surround her with good friends and wise mentors. Let this university be a place where she grows in knowledge, wisdom, and character. Above all, may she never depart from You."

"Amen," they replied together.

When the prayer ended, Sophia hugged both of her parents tightly.

"I'll miss you."

Mrs. Daniels kissed her forehead.

"We'll miss you too."

"But remember..."

"No matter how far you go, this will always be your home."

After watching her parents drive away, Sophia took a deep breath and wheeled her suitcase toward the female hostel.

The campus buzzed with excitement.

Freshers hurried from one building to another searching for registration offices. Senior students welcomed newcomers, while others simply watched the unfolding scene with amusement.

Sophia found her room on the second floor of the hostel.

She knocked gently before opening the door.

Inside were three other girls already arranging their belongings.

One of them looked up with a bright smile.

"Hi! You must be our fourth roommate."

Sophia smiled back.

"I am. My name is Sophia."

"Welcome! I'm Amira."

The other two girls introduced themselves as Chioma and Esther.

Within minutes, the room was filled with friendly conversation and laughter.

Sophia silently thanked God.

Perhaps this new chapter of her life wouldn't be as frightening as she had imagined.

Little did she know that before the day was over, she would meet someone whose arrival would change the course of her life forever.
